To go back to earlier points, I don’t see Mooney being let go after this year. Even with a suboptimal A10 record. I don’t know what stipulations Mooney has in his contract but that 2 year extension after 2024 handcuffed us. I don’t know what other factors Hardt had to consider with the extension but the buck stops with him at the end of the day. I’ve been very complimentary of Hardt and still stand by a lot of what I’ve said, but also agree with others that men’s basketball is ultimately what’ll define his tenure here and how he’ll
be looked upon by fans and that the recent contract extension was a bad decision.
Also, we use the word “fire” but I don’t think this administration will ever fire Mooney. It will be worded as mutually parting ways or something like that. It’s out of respect for his time here.
Also, Mooney clearly wants to have his recruiting/developing style to be more like the old days rather than changing his system/focusing on transfers. Right now he’s not doing either of those things well. I wonder if this wears on him some. You can tell he’s frustrated with current state of college athletics. It’s certainly not what it was 20 years ago.
