Buck up, we've at least got the back-ends of the home-and-homes, right?

at #246 ODU
at #142 Southern Illinois
#177 Elon

Based on that info there is a chance he might not be renewed if he is equally unsuccessful next year. Does anyone think that is a possible outcome?

We are 13-8 and I think probably gonna end up around 17-12, maybe in one game in the A10, so 18-13?

It’s not an extension but the narrative will be “progress” even though it was a dreadful schedule and we lose 3 starters plus a key bench player.

It’s just infuriating that this is deemed ok.

I was wondering today what our record would be at the end of the season. These are our remaining 10 games:

@VCU
vs. Davidson
@URI
vs. Mason
vs. VCU
@Davidson
vs. Bonnies
@Loyola
vs. Dayton
@Duquesne

I think we can pencil in 2 VCU losses and a loss to both Mason & Dayton.

Of the 7 other games, only 2 (Bonnies, Loyola) are currently below us in the standings.

I don’t see us going 5-5 against the schedule above. That would mean 5-1 against teams that aren’t VCU, Mason, Dayton. I don’t see that happening.

I think we end 16-16 or 17-15. That includes my projection of a 1st round A10 loss.

When is the published current contract done?
According to AI:

University of Richmond men's basketball coach Chris Mooney signed a contract extension in June 2024, keeping him under contract for several more years, though the specific end date and financial terms weren't publicly disclosed in that announcement, following a prior three-year extension in 2022 that ran through the 2026-27 season; he's a highly successful, long-tenured coach for the Spiders.

  • Previous Extension: In June 2022, Mooney received a three-year extension, securing his position through the 2026-27 season, making the 2024 extension a new deal beyond that.

I think that’s what it was. 2022 extended him through 2026-2027. Then after 2024 A10 regular season championship, another extension is through 2028-2029. I remember it being a 2 year extension. The only thing we don’t know is if there was a reduction in buy-out now or not. Otherwise, there are 3 seasons left on his contract after this year.

That puts us in an ominous situation. Horrible year last year, off to bad year in A10 this year (padded with pathetic OOC conference schedule), losing key players form this year's team, and uncertainty of current players on roster not playing as well as uncertainty of next year's recruits, and TBD what we pick up in the portal.

Bottom tier A10 last year, probable mid to bottom tier A10 this year, and who knows about next year in A10 but wouldn't bet on upper tier.

It doesn't leave a fan with a warm and fuzzy feeling looking at the remainder of this year and the 3 years moving forward.

Yes, runs through 2028–29 season. We didn't say how long the latest extension was, but JOC's sources said two years on top of the previous 2027 expiration.

No way he gets an extension after this year. But also don't see any way he gets fired. So unless there is a lower buyout figure, we're looking at having to buy out two years after next season as earliest possible opportunity.

4 years since an NCAA appearance.

Since then:
  • One surprising quality season that they torpedoed in the OOC. Great conference season. Were never a threat for an at large and season horribly whimpered out in A10 and NIT. Poor/Great/Terrible three sections of that season.
  • One bad losing season immediately after an NCAA year.
  • One historically bad losing season for a 20 year coach.
  • One mediocre at best outlook on this season now (bolstered from a losing record only by having one of the 10 worst OOC schedules in the country.)

Bullet one, the moon supporters claim as an overwhelming success. But agree with your assessment, we lost games in OOC that put us out of at large contention right away (common theme) and then we finished the season with a thud. Enjoyable season in between, but 2/3 components were duds (OOC and Post season).
