Mooney--an under appreciated coach.

Pray that AA and Harper stay, we land a great big in the portal, and at least 2 of the incoming freshmen have all A10 potential
I just don’t see it with our incoming freshmen unfortunately. Hope I’m wrong. Harper has shown more promise but not A10 level promise to me… at least not yet. I hope AA stays too but wouldn’t be surprised at all if he transfers. We are going to have to rely on transfers again, but I don’t have much confidence that we’ll find another Jordan King and Neal Quinn.

Also, with how bad we’ve been the last 2 years and also having a lot of unknowns with players next year, I can see our schedule being equally bad.

Based on this, sounds like through 2028-2029? We’re screwed
UR never publicizes this thing but ya it’s either 2 or 3 years left after this season. That contract extension after 2023-2024 turned out to not be a good decision from Hardt. Mooney should’ve been rewarded for winning A10 regular season but financial incentives should’ve been enough.

I believe Hardt has been a good AD up to this point. He’s done a lot of good things for our athletic department. I agree with posters though that what he does with MBB will ultimately define his tenure here. There’s also the PQ factor that complicates things further.

All I’m saying is if we continue going down this path without some change it’s going to lead to irreparable damage to our program. If it’s not firing Mooney, then firing all the assistants and bringing in people who will bring fresh perspectives, or doing something different in how we recruit, or fundamentally changing our offense/defense.

This strategy of “hoping” we will get the right recruits and figure it out, is not a good strategy.

Makes me sad writing this. It really does.

I’m not sure how much Hardt can really do if finding a new head coach is off the table. From the start I’ve had the impression that Hardt reports to Mooney, as backwards as that may be. Hard for Hardt to really make any impact if that’s the case

Hardt is focusing on the non revenue sports.

I get it, we suck now, and this season is likely a throwaway. Hindsight is 20/20--promise me i want to win as much as anyone.

2020 - COVID- likely headed to NCAA
2021 - Rough/disjointed year with COVID but won at Kentucky and Vandy,
2022 - NCAA
2023 - rough year
2024 - reg season champs
2025 - rough year

That's 3 good years, 1 incomplete and 2 F's. At the time i made this post, 2026 was looking good--i know we had a weak n/c but i thought we had a lot of potential. People act like Mooney's track record is 5 straight losing years. That was reason for post.

We weren’t going to a NCAA in 2020. I don’t care about the record. That Dayton team was loaded that year…

2024 was classic Mooney at end of season. Big huge sigh of relief when we tied for the regular season. Big effing no show vs GMU. Then choked at A10. So as much as I liked that team, was waiting for the other shoe to drop with moon and it did.
