Game Thread - Southern Virginia (D3) @ RC - Wed 11/5 7pm - ESPN+

I guess this serves as some type of walk through, but guys can't be getting much out of this. And the subbing in waves not much chemistry being formed.

On a positive note, it does seem like Mooney has this team playing a much different style than his typical team. Seems like he recognizes this team for what it is: we don’t really have any stars, but we have a good amount of depth and seem to be fairly quick and athletic.

The deep bench, fast paced offense, and full court press lean into those strengths. Also, this may be a function of playing a D3 team, but we’ve rebounded well (and have actually crashed the offensive glass quite a bit today). Will be interested to see if these changes continue or if Mooney reverts to his usual style once we get further into the season.

So some things are becoming clear early - - Walz, Tyne, and Daughtery are going to be the core. Argabright is going to play a bunch. Beagle is solid/good as a backup big. We need to find out who are going to be the wings!! None of Lopez, Tanner, Johnston has looked very good so far (albeit its very early).
Haven’t checked the minute distribution between Walz and Beagle, but Beagle just seems hungrier to score and more aggressive.

Agree. Walz hit a couple outside shots but looked much like last year. Not very assertive. Beagle, even with his deficiencies, he seems to bring it to the best of his ability with high effort.
Again, need Walz to walk the walk and play with some aggression.

My final take from last night: there is nothing good that comes from scheduling a D3 team. It is almost impossible not to play down to that level, and as you could see from the comments including mine during the game, the odd lineups and constant subbing prevent any real flow. It just creates concerns that may or may not be legitimate going forward.

If we had scrimmaged SoVA and then opened against JMU last night, I think we would be feeling much better about ECU on Saturday.
