Sure he does, we just need to be more aggressive from the tip.He has no answers.
He has answers, just no solution or plan of how to do it.He has no answers.
Are you saying that getting behind by double digits in the first 20 minutes, then outscoring opponent to make it a one score game in the next 10 minutes, and making a lot of bad decisions in the final 2 minutes is not the best strategy?Does someone want to tell Mooney that basketball games are 40 minutes long and the score from the entire game is what matters and not just the last 10 or 20 minutes.
Well, when you say it like that…Are you saying that getting behind by double digits in the first 20 minutes, then outscoring opponent to make it a one score game in the next 10 minutes, and making a lot of bad decisions in the final 2 minutes is not the best strategy?
Yes. People were fired up after the blowout loss to Davidson at home, people on the two main social media pages (fan group and official MBB page were upset. But then, we win a meaningless game against a terrible St. Bonnie team and all of that goes away.See why we must root for CM to lose every game… he wins one nothing game and the Fire Mooney post drops off the planet. This is what happens to UR admin too.
“Maybe we should fire Mooney. His teams lose.”
“Wait, he won a game. See, he is about to turn this ship around.”
For the love of Spider basketball. Lose Mooney and Fire Mooney.
until this year, schools couldn't kick in. we've been asking a really small group of boosters to fund this entire NIL thing. trying to keep up with high major funds is a lot to ask.2. Burton did not want to leave Richmond for his 5th season. Burton loves Richmond and wanted to stay, but Richmond would not meet his NIL needs. Even after Villanova offered his NIL deal he asked Richmond to match it and they said no. If this is true that's a shame on the University if we have Burton on that team with King we make it to the big dance no question.
That makes sense, but we need the University to be willing to give significant money to the NIL fund. However I feel like all the school cares about is trying to be a small ivy school.until this year, schools couldn't kick in. we've been asking a really small group of boosters to fund this entire NIL thing. trying to keep up with high major funds is a lot to asthay

Yes. And this where the 1.5 million dollar man needs to go sit in offices , pound on tables if needed, and make his case to get the money. But he also seems to be conditioned to try to act like patriot/ivy league team. Except of course for his salary. That makes sense, but we need the University to be willing to give significant money to the NIL fund. Not calling out your sources, but especially on bad teams, players can get frustrated easily especially when you run a certain style of offense. I’m sure they are disgruntled, they don’t want to lose. I remember I knew someone who was close with the team that made the run in the A10 and the exact quote was “gilyard says we’re gonna be terrible” coach and player dynamics are always weirdOver the weekend I was talking with a friend from college that happens to know a former recent Richmond player who I wont name that said some interesting things that I was not expecting.
1. A lot of the players are starting to get frustrated with Mooney and feel like his system and game management are not successful in this age of college basketball. Also said he feels like Mooney is not good at picking rotations and a lot of recent players have been frustrated.

True, but the players wouldn't be wrong either. Mooney's system sucks, the offense is fluid and non-aggressive and the switching on defense leaves guys guarding players they should never be guarding. We see that as fans every game and our super frustrated by it.Not calling out your sources, but especially on bad teams, players can get frustrated easily especially when you run a certain style of offense. As to your second point, we did keep him for 4 years and his last season he was supposed to be the guy and we knew how that worked out.
not saying the players are wrong. Im just saying that doesnt surprise me that the players are frustrated, but I don’t think that mattersTrue, but the players wouldn't be wrong either. I can only imagine if you are AA, Tyne, Johnston and for the upteenth time you get switched onto a 6'10 guy that you would be more than frustrated by now and particularly because Mooney offers no solutions to the players other than "play harder".
If you guys just played harder for 40 minutes, we would be winning has basically been Mooney's message all season. I'm not sure how that message goes over in the locker room but if I'm a player who is busting my ass and the sets we run keep failing, I'm not loving that message.
Agree on Tyler. He was fantastic all 4 years for us. So true about needing guys to be ready from game 1. This continues to hold us back and put us behind so many other programs. Our system sucks. It just does. And, we have struggled in late game situations for a long long time, and I guess we refuse to do anything to fix it.Cmon, Burton was playing at a POY level the first 10-12 games of the season that year. He tailed off as the season went on and the guys around him didn't provide the needed support and teams gameplanned him nonstop. Particularly the guard situation that year was rough with freshman Nelson, Goose, Roche, Randolph and Dji just did not provide the stability game to game that was needed. Moon also never figured out what combo might actually have worked. I blame Burton for basically none of this - we have Moon's history without a star lead guard and it's not great. It's only mediocre even with decades of star guards littering the rosters.
Lastly, as I pointed out in the portal thread - it was a classic case of the transfers all "learning" the Moonball offense the entire season and wasting a great player's efforts. It's why the system needs to be scrapped. Guys need to be able to play at peak performance from day 1, not in year 2.
I'll never forget the horrible last possession in regulation vs. Syracuse at Barclays. What a debacle. Tie game, our ball, after a timeout. We ran a confused set and passed the ball directly to Cuse, who then ran down and hit a shot a microsecond after the horn. Emblematic of the entire season, guys not on same page, coaching didn't make up for it. Moonball offense at its finest.
VT called it the next season when King and Hunt came in, predicting that we would be much better simply bc the backcourt was a big upgrade, and he was correct.
