really worried about this game...but will be making the trip to the Reservation again...read in the Game Notes that the Spiders are 16-4 in our last twenty against the Indians...that should make me feel better but the last time circumstances for the game lined up similar to this one we lost 41-3 in 2010!
so far this season our rebuilt team of younger, less experienced players has had a key element that's seemed to be missing...they've not been able to rise to the occasion, elevating their game when the opposition required it to win...I'm not sure we even had a "best game"...they've all seemed flawed to some extent by some aspect of the play...
Saturday is our last chance to put a memorable "best game" on the field in this disappointing season...we'll probably need it as for the first time in a number of years this game probably means more to the Indians than the Spiders...I've read that at least a few members of the Tribe hold out FCS Playoff hopes with an 8-4, 7-2 CAA finish!
like so many of the Patriot League foes we've faced it seems the Tribe has a dynamic dual threat QB who can sling it to a dangerous WR to stretch the field for their running game behind a dominant OL!...our chances probably rest with our defense's ability to slow down the W&M offense enough to see if last week's Richmond offensive explosion was an anomaly...Winston October v. Justin Wood should be entertaining...I think they know each other well!
anyone expecting another one score game?...I sure hope it is cause that means the Spiders will have a chance to win...
I really enjoy nostalgia...the last two times this game has been played on November 22 at Cary Field it has been a crucial Richmond victory...2008 when the 23-20 OT victory ensured an FCS Playoff spot and the subsequent National Championship, and that bitter cold night in 2014 when a 34-20 win earned the Spiders their first FCS Playoff bid since 2009!...maybe there's some special UR mojo on the Reservation Saturday!
thanks to all of the players this season who despite the disappointing W/L record never stopped giving their best on the field!
this is the end of the 15th year Spiders' Prologue series...if nothing else, it's taught me how good UR fans have had it during most of the 15 years...this one's been a long grind with a disappointing record, but I have appreciated all the comments, laughs and camaraderie around Richmond football...
I hope when the dust settles on Cary Field Saturday afternoon that Coach Huesman and his staff are ready to begin work on the 2026 season!
enjoy the Prologue...
Go Spiders!
