2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Lafayette

Wow - the jokes keep coming! I guess you can go back to the CAA and tear it up against Hampton, Bryant, Campbell and North Carolina A&T. Then you can tear it up against Lehigh. Oooooops - Oh for two there. Look, stop being delusional. You’re a great academic school with a solid football program in a conference of like academic schools. Enjoy the rivalries. Enjoy college football the way, arguably, it could be. Have a drink at the tailgate. But if that doesn’t float your boat, get your first win ever against Lafayette in the history of storied Spider football history - and then join the ACC and tear it up against Duke and UVA.
U, this was not intended to be a knock on the Pat league but more a highlight of our descent. The last good solid team we had was when RH brought in Bill Cosh as OC and Cosh brought his VMI QB and Top receiver and wide open passing O. We had a great O and thumped Lehigh that year. Cosh left after one year and RH returned to his failed run the non passing (surprise the D) OB until he is hurt and then switch out mid season to a throwing QB.
We have played into a weak CAA schedule the last few years that covered our inadequacy.
I’m happy to be in the Pat league especially with V and W&m coming over. My disappointment is with the UR program.

The last 5 minutes of the game yesterday gave me some satisfaction that we are not as bad as the record shows. Guess we need to realize that Huesman the OC is in his 1st year as a signal play caller. I think we can all agree that we were clicking on those last few drives
One completion out of the last 3 attempts to
score and we go for two and win the game!🏈🕷️🕸️

Ok with all you said but don’t like the V and W&M qualifier. Its not your Dad’s CAA anymore and Pat League has stepped it up the last few years. I get where you’re coming from. But my Pope hat gets all twisted up when you’re buddies dump on your league. Tell them to take a crap on other conferences. Given the landscape, you made the right move. I cant comment on thr coach criticism move.

Sorry for the typos - my fingers got a liitle cold up here. I meant to say i can’t comment on the coach criticism but for what its worth I think your comments are more than reasonable.

Your points are fair and I agree the PL has been headed in the right direction. You are foolish to think that the PL didn't get a lot stronger with the addition of WM and Nova.

Agree - Definitely agree with you! Patriot League is a lot stronger - its a great conference with you, W&M and V. 2026 Patriot League has so much potential. I think we’re in love. Its time I retire from this board and move on to other boards where my grace is needed (Holy Cross Board). Go Spiders, Go Lehigh, Go Pards! Let’s make the Patriot League a 2-3 bid conference - now go get yourselves a QB!

We really need a new coaching staff.

Agree that there was a new Wickersham out on the field the second half and Snelshire had his worst game
throwing. Still our QBs would rate in the lower half of the PL. Yes we need a mobile QB with an accurate arm.
For goodness sake, Russ, get rid of the bubble screen.

In fairness to our status, the PL should be glad we had 10 starters enter the Portal. It made us a much younger team
with less experience. PL looks good even without Nova and the Tribe coming. Hopefully it will be a conference to be reckoned with and yes, for most part, we were out coached this year and unprepared for the level of play.

Seriously? You played down to the #4 (twice) and #25 teams in FCS? But not to a 4-7 Howard (a ONE point win) and a squeaker win over 5-6 Wofford? Played down to Holy Cross and Bucknell, but stepped it up against Georgetown and Fordham? Did you play down against Bill and Jordon? Here’s to motivating the Spiders this week against Bill and Mary. < insert other Bill quote here about what your record says about you >
Urban, Spider team is like me, we are a lot better than we look on first blush. 🫠

I can say this; if we stayed healthy all season we would have def been a team to compete with we lost alot to the portal but these fellas been playing thru injures every week since week 1 we had a important piece hurt and out for certain games

Example: Lafayette has had the same OL every game, big and experienced. We have a different line almost
each game with a lot of youth. Our struggles on offense stemmed from the OL. Look at the holes #26 had to run
through untouched against a pretty good front seven. That speaks volumes to what a cohesive OL can do.

The first couple years in a new league are important, especially when you are making a move that initially was viewed as a step down (and with good reason). I think most of us now agree that moving forward, the Patriot could/should be stronger than the CAA, but this year was a huge blown opportunity for us. Coming off two playoff appearances from a multi-bid league and moving to a one-bid league, we had a chance to dominate and let future recruits know that we were the class of the league. Doing so also could have helped us continue to recruit at a level higher than what most Patriot teams do.

Instead, we fell on our face and ruined that chance. Now we are just another team in the Patriot League. Yes, we still have a lot going for us as a school and program, but we are now behind the top couple teams in this league from a recruiting standpoint, and I have no confidence that Huesman can change that perception.

Many good points here. But I still believe after we get over the depletion of our top 10 loses last year and can rebuild through our recruiting staying with us, we will rise again to competing at the top. If you study all of the patriot league teams this year, none of their returning upperclassmen transferred up!🏈🕸️🕷️

Apparently the 10/11 guys that traded up from the CAA and PL didn't view things the same. Just need to go to work.
