2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - William and Mary

This season has definitely been a roller coaster of a ride. I was devastated after the Lehigh loss which I still feel could have been different outcome if we don't have the snap issue with first and goal to go up 14 to 0 with under 2 minutes to go in first half. Then some weird play calling and inconsistent play throughout the year.by a talented squad that made me feel we were underachieving. That being said this team never quit the entire season when many times they could have given up and turned this into a dreadful year. Today's game was definitely the crown jewel to be down 14 to 0 on your rivals home field and to come out and punch them in the mouth with physical play on both sides of the ball in the second half and get a win to finish the year. Say what you want about Huesman, but his teams never quit on him and showed that again today. A great turnout by Spider Fans and we again show our control of the FCS landscape in Virginia. Spider pride was restored today and thanks to this team for finishing strong today and bringing the Capital Cup back home again.

If we go up 14-0 we win that game... that snap did kinda mess our momentum up but it us other key parts we could have capitalize on... injures also we stayed hurt across the board all year

anyone expecting another one score game?...I sure hope it is cause that means the Spiders will have a chance to win...
The theme of the season for the Spiders - one score games.

thanks to all of the players this season who despite the disappointing W/L record never stopped giving their best on the field!
The other interesting thing about this team was they definitely didn’t give up and always played better in half #2.

...read in the Game Notes that the Spiders are 16-4 in our last twenty against the Indians...
Didn’t realize this State rivalry is as lopsided as the VT/UVA one.

I’m not a FCS football guy, but I have been following more closely this year bc of the revived Forum (thanks @SFspidur) and I thank @Mojo-Spider and @SpiderFan26 for their contributions over the football season to keep a newbie like me up to speed. Excellent work fellas!!

We will see what year 2 in the Patriot League brings and I am looking forward to the 2 additional league games.

Unsurprisingly, there are errors in the series stats listed in our game notes and game recap.

Game notes: "Richmond has won 16 of the last 20 meetings."

It was actually 16 of the last 21 heading into yesterday's game. W&M won in 2022, 2019, 2016, 2011, and 2010.

Game recap: "Richmond has now won 17 of the last 21 Capital Cup games, including the last three and four of the last five, and holds a three-game edge in the rivalry, now standing at 67–64–4."

Similarly, it's actually now 17 of the last 22. Four of the last five is technically correct, but it's also five of the last six. And the overall series is 67–64–5, so they missed a tie in there.

It just wouldn't be an AD wrap-up of a game without spelling or substantive mistakes in the article.

BS call on the targeting.

Native thanks for your observations...when I was much younger (60s and 70s) Richmond football was the premier D-1 Spiders sport...it became my favorite and I enjoy trying to keep it alive on this board...there aren't that many strong UR football fans out there anymore...but here there are enough to for me to enjoy this board several times a day...

I'd also like to thank Counter32 who's the real provider of much of the information and insight that keeps it interesting and entertaining year round...then there's also Gallipoli and KE Spider...the Peanut Gang and many more...thanks to all.

On to the off season, I know it's going to be entertaining!...I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

Go Spiders!

Yet another fun trip to Williamsburg. The first half was as bad and uninspiring as you can get and then the 3rd quarter happened. I've been as critical as anyone of our offensive coaches and #16 this season but hats off to all of them for that 3rd quarter. I don't know if it was the dire nature of the situation but we attacked the entire field from the start of the 3rd quarter with creative play calls and crisp execution. 16 threw the ball with precision and the reverse/end around to Veney on our 3rd TD drive caught the Tribe defense completely off guard. Snelshire made two big throws on that last TD drive (13 play, 91 yard drive....outstanding). 21 points allowed doesn't do justice to our defensive performance. The muffed punt put us in a bad spot to start (not to mention the two overzealous personal foul penalties) but we held the Tribe to under 200 yards of total offense and absolutely stuffed a very mobile QB. Not the season we wanted but a nice way to end the year and hopefully we keep as many of these players as possible (and learn from that 3rd quarter play calling) for next year.
