2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Lafayette

Give credit for not quitting but we do not have an A grade QB, a B-/C+ at the best. Our
Offensive line is very suspect, with decent pass protection but poor running push. Get rid of that bubble screen on first down. Every single time Dawson runs in motion they know it is coming.

I am ready for a coaching change which will allow us to get rid of the current OC. How do we give up 263 yards
to an RB. Ready for Huesman to say “we were not in.our gaps”. Hope Lafayette beats Lehigh cause they are the best PL team I have seen.

I was at the game. Incredible how we gave up big plays. Their receivers were wide open on two touchdown passes, & their running back sprinted long runs right through our defense.

We still put up 28 on them and had 3 trips in the red zone and we didn't score. Snelsire missed several open receivers. Wickersham added a spark. I kept asking where this offense has been all season. That's on the coaches.

We had no answer for Kente Edward's. That's on the coaches

We also had nine penalties for 86 yards. The worst was on 3rd and 8 and there was a holding penalty on Geronomi, which gave them a 1st down and a touchdown. That's on the coaches

Our guys did not give up.

I will not throw him under the bus, you don’t reload instantly after losing 10 possible returning starters back from last year. He and his staff have recruited excellent talent
Maybe we got all we could get out this team this year!🏈🕸️🕷️ Somtimes the best of coaching doesn’t get executed by the players
I am going to respectfully disagree. Huesman tried to force a run scheme too many times. Tonight, we could almost predict every play before it happened. If I could do it, the opposing coaches certainly could read the plays.

From Roll Spides...

I’m not sure how many drives/plays we have on our script but we have to find a way to sustain offense beyond our opening calls.

That was what it was like with Wicksham in there. The other side read the script.

Any Huesman truthers still out there?
Yes. The man is 34-16 in last four years with 3 NCAA Playoffs appearances and two league championships.

This season has been a disappointment, but my God we are playing with practically a new team after portal transfers and graduations. Not a fan of his overly conservative style, but overall hard to quibble with what he puts on the field. They are well recruited, well prepared, and never quit. Don't get that from a lot of coaches.

Unbelievable that Jr. #26 Kente Edwards their running back who only carried the ball all last season 8 times for a total of 68 yards has been able to accomplish what he has for this year and totally dominated us today running the ball. Was only a special teams player last year on a 6-6 team? 😩
Their offensive line has been intact the entire season. The same starting group in all games to date. Edwards is good but he would be the first to tell you he doesn't do it alone.

Recruiting doesn't mean $hit if you are not a good sideline coach. Too conservative, too predictable, same old same old. Richmond should be tearing up the Patriot League.

We should be tearing up the Pat league. I believe that was the goal and thereby raise the Pat League level of national competitiveness so that when WM and V come on board the Pat League will be really strong moving to rival the CAA is it’s hay day.
But alas, we have become an athletic program that measures itself on the goal of “did we compete,” with a self satisfaction level of sleepy contentment.
Keep preaching Rick.

Wow - the jokes keep coming! I guess you can go back to the CAA and tear it up against Hampton, Bryant, Campbell and North Carolina A&T. Then you can tear it up against Lehigh. Oooooops - Oh for two there. Look, stop being delusional. You’re a great academic school with a solid football program in a conference of like academic schools. Enjoy the rivalries. Enjoy college football the way, arguably, it could be. Have a drink at the tailgate. But if that doesn’t float your boat, get your first win ever against Lafayette in the history of storied Spider football history - and then join the ACC and tear it up against Duke and UVA.

Perfect!!!!

In the comments above, Coach Huesman stated that the PL was very competitive, almost like parity. We have played down to our level of competition.
Seriously? You played down to the #4 (twice) and #25 teams in FCS? But not to a 4-7 Howard (a ONE point win) and a squeaker win over 5-6 Wofford? Played down to Holy Cross and Bucknell, but stepped it up against Georgetown and Fordham? Did you play down against Bill and Jordon? Here’s to motivating the Spiders this week against Bill and Mary. < insert other Bill quote here about what your record says about you >

Lots going on in this Thread. Huesman absolutely gets credit for the past few seasons of playoff football but you can make a convincing argument that luck and fate (16 getting hurt early in both seasons and Coleman balling out in both seasons) played more of a role than Russ’s coaching skill and acumen. Frankly I don’t think we make the playoffs in either year if Russ’s hand picked QB is the starter for both entire seasons. Add in Russ bringing in his son as OC and doubling down on a conservative offensive approach and it doesn’t get me extremely excited about the future. @Urban2, I can’t argue with anything you are saying. I do think that we would have beaten Holy Cross and Bucknell this year with our QB (Coleman) from the past two seasons (who our coach inexplicably didn’t choose) but that same qb lost to Lehigh in last year’s Playoffs so who knows. We’d probably have a similar record to Lafayette (a very good team who was favored going into the game yesterday for good reason).
