when the University announced Richmond football would be moving to the Patriot League this season, many experts, fans and even myself, on some days, thought the Spiders would plow through the new League...Lehigh busted that myth in last season's FCS Playoffs and again in this season's opening game...
I don't know about anyone else, but suspect if you're like me, you're a little nervous about whether, or not, we can make a run in the new League...
that's why I'm so interested in how Richmond fares against a Bucknell team that has some strengths and some challenges just like the Spiders, if UR doesn't win this one a run through the remainder of the PL schedule seems very unlikely...
the battle matches a Bucknell strength (offense led by QB Ralph Rucker IV) versus the Richmond strength (defense one of the best in PL & FCS)...can the Spiders slow down Rucker and give us a chance to win?
the matchup also pits a Bucknell challenge (defense gives up 32+ ppg) versus a Richmond challenge (offense that has extreme difficulty scoring TDs)...can the UR offense score enough points to win?
the answers to these two questions Saturday should gives fans a better idea of where our Patriot League season is headed...I've read the Spiders are slight favorites...it's Homecoming at Christy Mathewson Stadium...I'm expecting Bucknell's best shot and hoping the Spiders can do just enough to come home with the W!
enjoy the Prologue.
Go Spiders!
