2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Holy Cross

Full press conference. Snelsire has an infection in his knee. They’re hoping he can still hold on kicks but won’t be available at QB.

Glassmyer likely out 2–3 weeks. Bye week coming up of course.

Does anyone know the gist of Holy Cross’ problems this year? Is it the impact of Chesny leaving for JMU and taking a bunch of players with him?
Where to stahhht?!?

Firstly, welcome to Patriot League football. I think you'll ultimately enjoy your stay there. For years, 1992-2014 or so, it was kind of a wasteland for Holy Cross football as we dropped scholarships during that period. We weren't able to navigate that world as well as schools like Colgate and Lehigh could then. Through the resumption of scholarships and then Bob Chesney coming to the Hill we have (until this year) returned to the level of FCS football we enjoyed when we, like yourselves, transitioned down from 1-A football in the early 1980s. I think with the addition of Richmond, William&Mary and Villanova, the future can be very bright for Patriot League football.

As for our travails this season, it can be akin to blindfolded people trying to describe an elephant to one another.

One of the glaring differences this year from recent years has been our offensive line play. This had been one of our great strengths during the Chesney with multiple guys either getting NFL-time or playing for P4 schools after graduating from HC. This year's unit is nowhere near that level and it has really hurt our offense overall.

Some have blamed our schedule so far this year. We led Northern Illinois in the 4th Q, pissed away the UNH game up there and URI beat us with a late FG. We have lost a ton of close games in both 2023 and 2024 and some feel the dam/spirit may have broken there. We played Yale tough for a half but seemed to collapse in the 2nd H. Lost to a bad Fordham team and it all sort collapsed it seems with Harvard at Homecoming. Some feel we have "overscheduled" the last few years and that has hurt team morale.

Some will blame the coaching in general, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Poor play selection etc.

Long story short, it hasn't been a fun Fall for HC football....the hope is that we can somehow regroup with this past bye week and turn things around during the second half of the 2025 campaign.

Welcome again, not going this year but hope to make the trip down to Richmond for a game in the near future!

We’re going to run it a lot. Lot of runs by Wick unless Russ tries to limit that due to recent injuries.
Your post summarizes the issues with 16 and Russ/the offense the past few seasons. Russ wants a running QB but 16 keeps getting hurt early in every season. We were really fortunate to have Coleman the past two years and Snelshire was starting to give us a small glimpse of at least a downfield threat over the past 2 games. Not picking on 16, Russ has evaluated him as QB1 the past 3 off seasons, but we are seeing that it's not a sustainable formula, at least in my opinion (which I know is worth nothing, lol). Credit is surely given for the past two Playoff appearances and I know we lost a ton of really good players to the portal (this season is what it is) but I also feel like our offensive "system" really limits us and we are going to see that on Saturday unless we can just line up and run the ball like we did against VMI.

Holy Cross was pretty banged up on D heading into the bye week. A lot will depend on who is back. If we are as banged up as we were vs. Harvard, there will be little pressure. I think we allowed about 100 yards to Jordan Harris, the Harvard RB. If we are still missing some guys on the DL, it could be a long day for the Crusaders. I envision some running room for you guys, but maybe not completely open. Should be able to get to the next layer say 3-5 yards?
