2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Holy Cross

Holy Cross has been Patriot League Champion or Co-Champion every year from 2019 through last season. Totally unaccustomed to a season like the one they are having this year.

We had better be ready because they will be coming in here hotter than a hornet with something to prove.
Imagine how we feel.Back to back CAA champs and playoffs 3 years in a row and now 1-2 in a lesser league. We can’t be happy either.

Very true....HC has a history of playing tough when backs are against the wall.

The best result for the league is for Lehigh to lose one game, with the winner getting the Automatic Qualifier to the playoffs and Lehigh getting a bid.

I asked the official pollsters.
The competition has been tougher this year than last. Bucknell and Colgate would have beaten most of the teams we played last year. Patriot will def be the better competition next year. Everyone seems to forget that we only played 1 or 2 of the better teams in the CAA each year.

Agree about the competition to a degree, but do not forget the 11 starters now in FBS that made the teams we played look not as strong and possibly would be making this stronger competition not look as strong.

Not making excuses, it is what it is, but many of our freshman and sophomore starters would be two deep backups this year and moving up when those guys moved on.

NIL or the move to PL, or both put Spiders in a rebuild year to some degree, IMO.
I really doubt Nova, Tribe or Spiders get hammered by NIL at the end of this season like Spiders did this year, but I been wrong many times.
They will likely lose some to FBS but not half their starters plus the normal grads that were lost as normally happens.

Reasonable point. I think back to this time last year, when we struggled with Delaware state and NCAT. Those teams were not good and we made them look way better than they were. But it’s a guessing game in this new college era. Hopefully you’re right about the lower turnover of players this year.

We have been a slow starting team over the past two years and they all had the same pattern...16 was the starter, got injured and then Cam came in and we started gaining momentum in then (CAA) play. It's not 16's fault that the coaches evaluated him as the best option but you can draw your own conclusions to why I'm not confident in our HC and offensive coaches ability to evaluate and develop QB's. With Snelshire you at least see the willingness and ability to throw downfield and you are starting to see that we have some good weapons. I posted in another thread that you need to start looking at your young QB's but if Snelshire does indeed have another year of eligibility left then you use this season to get him that experience (understanding unfortunately that games like Bucknell may/will happen). Huesman deserves credit for the last two seasons of Playoff eligibility but he kind of lucked into Cam being forced into duty early in those seasons and still doubled down on 16 again this year (with the same injury pattern occurring early in this season).

Does anyone know the gist of Holy Cross’ problems this year? Is it the impact of Chesny leaving for JMU and taking a bunch of players with him?
