Rotation and Minutes

Sensible, that is exactly my point on development. Only real pet move I have ever seen from him is 10 foot fade away on the baseline he would make some last year, and that was kind of a weak move - but he did make some of them. THe argument about our offense and facilitator is BS, because you still have to take advantage when the other team is just playing you for the pass every time. Also BS b/c as you cited every other starting big man had some scoring moves. I'm fine with him being a facilitator - like those other guys are - but when you show no aggression to the basket it really makes those passes harder, and one less person to guard. Kind of like some of our guards in the recent pass that would catch the ball, not even look in the direction of the basket, and just start looking to hand off or pass to the next guy 35 feet away. This years guards and wings are very aggressive and make very quick passes and decisions with the ball. Hopefully he can pick it up and ramp up into A10 play.

The Spiders are ahead of the curve in the new wave of basketball strategy.

Read this snippet today on Michigan on mlive.com:

So far this season, Yaxel Lendeborg leads Michigan at 27 minutes per game. Seven of his teammates are averaging between 18.8 and 23.2 minutes per game. Veteran forward Will Tschetter, a valuable part of the second unit who often gets replaced by freshmen when the game is no longer in doubt, is at 13.5.

“Having a nine-man rotation is great,” Tschetter said. “It definitely takes a certain level of sacrifice. Guys are having to sacrifice minutes, shots, things like that, but having an unselfish group and a very selfless group like we have has been paramount so far.”

Aday Mara, Michigan’s 7-foot-3 starting center, said, “When you’re not playing that much, every time you get to the court, you can just be playing at your 100% and try to go as hard as you can.”

That’s what the Wolverines have done, and opponents haven’t been able to keep up.

All the Spiders need is more money for the best players in the portal and a Natty is theirs!

Will say, AP is growing on me this season. He is doing a lot of good things on the court. The 3 point shooting is an issue. In today's game it is hard to pass up an open 3, so I feel like he has to take the wide open ones. If he could be a 30 % shooter that would be helpful.

Totally agree. I've been a big fan because he does alot of little things right & I think he's a great glue guy. The team seems to love him. His shooting is an issue but that seems more mental than physical IMO.

I'd like to see Roumoglou get some minutes at the 4/5 against smaller teams. You can't teach the kind of timing he has on blocking shots and he's a very effective scorer in the paint. One question though - how come everyone (including commentators) calls him AP instead of AR? I've only been watching Richmond for two seasons, so maybe there's something I'm unaware of.

I think the deep rotation will have moments that will serve you well - especially games that extend into overtime where your guys are still running fresh while the opposition is wilting.

Though I'm only casually familiar with the rest of the A-10 conference, (my cousin's son was a walk-on at URI from 02-05, but I haven't seen much of the more recent A-10) from what I've seen, I'd say Richmond has the pieces to make a good run in the conference tournament this year and I wouldn't be shocked to see you make the big dance.

Speaking of bigs and Richmond, we (UConn) saw Soulis earlier this year in a match up against Columbia. He didn't have a stellar game against us, but his numbers for the season look pretty solid.

AP is short version of first name, Apostolos.

I think UR has a shot as most of the teams are very similar in terms of talent level. Always seems to come down to who is playing the best at the end of the season in the A10.

Soulis was quite a loss in my opinion as UR now has a gap in upperclassmen bigs. Will try to get a couple players from the portal, but that will be tough as every team is looking for bigs and it also usually takes a full year in Mooney’s system for a big to produce.

Yep. I wish him the best there. I just don't think he ever would have been a key rotation piece for us. We need to do much better at that spot if we want to do well in the A-10.

I'll trade Walz and Mooney for Soulis and Hovde today.

Though to be honest it would be more about Hovde.

But would be nice to have Soulis in place for next season too.

So the same as Walz this year.

Can you find a better player in the portal? Sure.

Will UR be able to sign one? Not so sure.

“A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.”
Yes, we can and will find a better player in the portal. So, a guy transfers, no quality mid majors want him, he goes to an Ivy League school, averages 7 ppg, and u guys say "wish we had him"?????? The guy looks thinner than Sal out there, but you guys want him here battling A-10 guys??

As said Ap short for Apostolus. Had a chance to speak to him and asked if he was good with "Ap", he grinned and said yes.

I'll wait to see who we add before deciding, but Soulis had some skill and size. plus he'd have had 3 years learing our system.

right now our starting center next year is probably 6'6" Jaylen Robinson, backed up by a true freshman. I don't know our NIL budget, but landing a starting level transfer center will be realllly expensive. aren't as many of those guys as other positions.

We got Beagle 2 years ago I think we'll be fine in the transfer portal. Mooney is much better in the transfer market than he is with high school recruiting too.

Soulis would have been fine to keep but lets not pretend he was some all A-10 player we lost. He would have been a serviceable big for us.

Also, I think Hovde would be a great coach for us BUT when Mooney is finally gone, I want a completely clean break from him. We need someone with new ideas, perspective, and energy.

Agree.....but we see the stranglehold Mooney has on the program, whether strictly due to PQ, or some other reason. He certainly has not won and gone dancing enough to justify the 20 year tenure. So, I am now of the opinion he will only move on if he can be assured a Mooney guy takes over. Problem is that in reality he will be pushing hard for Peter to be that guy.

Been following the board for a while now, but have never made an account. One thing that I just don't understand about the rotation this year is it seems when one rotation is hot Mooney still makes substitutions. I also think that we need a change in the starting lineup. We need Jaden in there from the start with how agressive he plays and would rather see Collin come off the bench.

That is just how Mooney has always been
