Replacements

AFA 2004 22-5, 12-2 in MWC. Utah got AQ. BYU & AFA got at large.

Returned 3 starters and 6th man in 2005. If I’m reading correctly.

2005 18-11, 9-5 and KenPom 44(!)
17-11 D1

But swept BYU, Split with NM & UNLV, took 2 of 3 from SDSU

Interesting schedule KenPom 22 neutral, 20,31,90 home & away, 27,36,78,98 away. 11 vs Top 100…

OOC was Marquette, Georgia Tech, Iowa, St Mary’s, even Bruce Pearl 26-6 Milwaukee…

With a starting lineup of 6’2”, 6’3”, 6’4”, 6’6”, 6’8”…

I keep finding interesting things about that season.
I believe the year after Moon they then went 23-7 and made NCAA tournament again. Then the next year they went 26-9.

So, NCAA appearances year before Moon and year afterward. 3 great years and 1 mediocre year.

The one year out of those 4 that they didn't break 20 wins? Moonball.

Pretty amazing. At least 18-12 is 60%.

This is all just wishful thinking but here are all the coaches I would consider in this order:
Matt Brauer - SFA
Flynn Clayman - High Point
Jon Perry - Navy
Takayo Siddle - UNCW
Mark Prosser - Winthrop

All these coaches would do so much better with our conference affiliation, facilities, and NIL. I bet none of them would be making excuses either at all the press conference interviews. But nope, let’s give Mooney another crack at it. 22nd time is the charm as they say.

Holy cow that’s impressive. Wish I remember that team. Sound like a buzzsaw

I still really like my guy Simp. Duane Simpkins. Not sure of that nickname anymore tho, can he still use it? But he laid claim to it first.

Has gone T2, T1 (with NCAA) and currently T3 in pat League. at tough job in American. And he coached long time in A10 as asst too & knows league. Played high level ball at Maryland, also was head coach in high school so done everything & paid dues. former DC legend, also GK d'd him up in high school (Richmond level D - not good).

Every time open MBB board and see this thread title my first thought is.... My God, are we considering replacement fans again?

Seriously, some serious names have been put forward buttressed by hard data. Interesting read. Good stuff.

If GK d'd him up in HS, no wonder he got a D1 Scholly./s

I think is more because our program is not consequential enough to be worthy of discussion. Which is also Mooney's fault and another reason he should be on the hot seat.

Regarding hot seat the article was focused on power conf schools but for non power schools he listed all these..

Others to watch: UAlbany, Ball State, The Citadel, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, Cal State Fullerton, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Holy Cross, Little Rock, Niagara, Northern Illinois, Rider, Sacred Heart, Southern Indiana, Tennessee Tech, UNC Greensboro, UTEP, Weber State, Western Michigan

we're certainly more consequential than those schools. He did make that Coaching Coaches twitter tho. That was the same accounnt that ripped our fans for asking about Moon years ago b4 the A10 run.

for whatever reason Mooney really never makes these things. It doesn't make sense. idk if because of his long tenure they think untouchable or he's viewed as a "good guy" - those guys get fired all the time. Or his contract situation. Tho no way all those listed above aren't in last year of contract situations and we have ton more $ to do do things anyway. Probably they know U of R admin is just soft and leafy.
