Could the decision simply be because the administration sees a current buy out being too much money? I pray that the retirement story is true , or in the alternative Hardt is retiring and Mooney begins a transition to AD or another role.

UR has no real history of firing coaches in the revenue generating sports, so yes.

That said, they can afford this if they want to do it.

Why retire when millions is given for no reason at all

Mills took the AD job at VCU, IIRC. He wasn't fired.

Mills was probably a decent coach. We had no money or facilities for much of his UR career. In retrospect he couldn't build a program playing way off campus at the Arena or the Coliseum and practicing at Millhiser. Of course, I couldn't see that as a 19-year-old who wanted him fired, hence the memorable "Fire Lew Mills Night" game against VPI.

Once the RC was built, he had us in the SoCon finals in the second year, where we lost by two to Furman, who had Clyde Mayes an Fessor Leonard, two awfully good players. He took the VCU job after that season.

Agree. We can 100% afford to pay 4+ million. That is very little in today's world. And, even f we didn't want to pay it as a school, I would think we have plenty of donors who care enough and have cash to say, "here, take this, get him the heck out of here". This is not about money, and it is obviously not about wins and losses.

Football coach Jim Marshall was fired in 1994. We really haven't had a lot of chances to fire a football or basketball coach since. Mooney after back to back 20 loss seasons was a chance, but I actually agreed with keeping him then. Otherwise, when was there a chance in either sport?

Latrell Scott may have resigned, can't recall, but he was forced out one way or another because of "off-field issues."
