Preseason Camp

Maryland poached our kicker last minute just for him to be 3rd on the depth chart. I’m sure our coaching staff will try to use this as reason to help keep players moving up to FBS, despite the money that comes with it.

I appreciate Huesman’s candor that he always has, some time too much if you ask me, but it is very concerning if we don’t even have confidence in making extra points. Seems like this new kicker for us has the leg distance and got a lot of glowing reviews per RollSpides article. Question is whether that will translate under game pressure.

thought I read somewhere, or Coach Huesman mentioned it Monday morning, that there was a chance Alsheskie would be able to come back from his injury? Based on the 16 second interview apparently not!

Go Spiders!
Alsheskie and Bonser are both available. The problem is neither of them is making kicks.

“We don’t have any placekicking game. Zero,” Huesman said. “I have no idea how we’re going to make an extra point or a field goal. So, I may have to kick it. I don’t know if they’ll let me. I’ll try to kick it. But it’s absolutely ridiculous right now.”

Huesman added that this wasn’t some hyperbolic assessment meant to amuse, nor was it a prod to inspire Alsheskie and Bonser.

“I’m just being honest,” said the coach.

As for Saturday’s date at Lehigh, Huesman said he may decide on UR’s starting placekicker based on pregame work, “to see who actually puts one or two through the upright, and that’ll be the guy that kicks.”
