NIL Collective Preseason event?

Spider17

Any word on if there will be another preseason NIL event this year to watch a scrimmage and hear from the team before the season starts like there was last year? Seemed like it was well attended, a great way to raise funds for the collective, a chance for spider fans to get to know the upcoming team better, and generate excitement for the season.

enjoyed going last year .. haven't heard anything and sort of wonder if with the NIL uncertainty situation and the JMU scrimmage if this won't occur this year

Hmmm, feel like its probably a small group of big donors (80s, PQ etc) driving this. With the disastrous spend and ROI last year I'm wondering if lost some appetite?

JOC on the scrimmage:

Collin Tanner, a 6-6 junior, made all five of his shots and scored 12, with five rebounds. Freshman point guard Aiden Argabright (John Marshall High) had three steals and eight points. The post men were the assists leaders, with 6-10 senior Mike Walz dishing four and 6-10 senior Jonathan Beagle contributing three. Apostolos Roumoglou, a 6-8 senior, scored 11 (three 3-pointers). The White beat the Blue 33-32.

In the scrimmage, transfer forward AJ Lopez did not play because of a class conflict, and transfer forward Jaden Daughtry sat out as he follows a return-to-play schedule. Daughtry, a Richmond area resident (L.C. Bird High, Benedictine) who spent the last two seasons at Indiana State, missed several weeks of preseason practice because of concerns about a cardiac test. He is expected to be ready for UR’s opener Nov. 5 against Division III Southern Virginia.

So how many people actually showed up???
Someone posted a pic on FB. Looked to be a small crowd, 100-200 max. Glorified practice at the Queally center. I felt dismayed at JOC observations and Fan1 as they mentioned all of our returning players as the one's making the biggest impact. That did not give me a lot of confidence because we saw what those guys did last year. Was hoping our transfers and McCothlin and Bryson were the dominant forces out there, seems like the opposite was true.

there's no reason to believe last year was the ceiling for AP or Tyne. give them another chance.

97 - yes it is not too exciting to hear these updates. Weird last I had heard of AP he was not practicing due to the knee surgery, but that must have changed. But he was hyped last off season. Just not sure what type of position he can play or guard? Same issue with Tanner. He can look good at times hitting 3's and grabbing some boards, but its the ability to guard a position that worries me.

Interesting that JOC thinks that Daughtry will be ready for the first game. I guess he could get some “in game” conditioning, but I would imagine that his minutes would be limited.
Still lot of mystery. If fully cleared that should be plenty of time to get up to speed. He only played 20 per game last season.

We aren't some YMCA rec league program. We are paying these dudes to win basketball games. Tyne can play ball (I just don't think he should be a starter), AP couldn't get off the bench 2 years at UConn and when he did get off the bench with us, we saw why he didn't get off the bench at UConn.

both need to drastically improve their shooting this season.
our team shooting was mind bogglingly bad last year. Hunt, Dusan, Tyne, White, AP and Tanner all shot below 30% from 3.
can't win if you can't shoot.
