Around the A10

This stuff drives me nuts. It is like a noted gypsy reading palms or tea leaves in a cup. Means absolutely nothing this early in the season and ashamed I'm even commenting on it.
I refuse to comment on it, but I can comment on your comment 😂. Why people find it entertaining is beyond me. I would have more fun picking from 364 teams in a hat and making my own bracket!

I said it before -- I'd like a NCAA Cup like the FA Cup in England, where all organized teams are included. Let's just do all 366ish teams, starting with the play-in rounds in December, and a couple dedicated windows throughout January and February, culminating in the final 64 starting in mid-March, which becomes March Madness. Random draws until the round of 64, when the selection committee gets to re-seed the final 64.

A-10 had a decent looking profile at the start of the month and it all has come crashing down.

GW loses to frickin Delaware at home.
VCU loses at home to New Mexico
Rhody loses to Providence and McNeese at home
Davidson lost at home to St. Mary's
Mason lost to Tech
Dayton gets steamrolled by UVA

The only decent win in December by the A-10 was delivered by us. In fact, I think the league's only Quad 1 win belongs to us (and that isn't going to stand once Belmont gets into conference play and loses a couple games). But still, a nice feather in our cap but also a testament to the weakness of the league's scheduling and ability to deliver wins in the few marquee games they got.

Not overly surprising although it is worse than usual as VCU and Dayton aren’t carrying the conference on the OOC win front. We all know the OOC schedules are overly weak and so the records look great, but there is little substance. The talking heads have to find something to talk about to the casual fan and record is an easy reference point.

The A10 can hope to be a 3 bid league, but is is operating on a wing and a prayer versus an actual strategic plan. Maybe the new commissioner will move the needle whenever that person is identified.

Looks like the A-10 has 2 Quad 1 wins. Rhody has a Quad 1 win over Yale (which like our Q1 win is even less likely to stand once Yale enters conference play). A-10 being a 3 bid league seems like a really remote possibility. I think our best case if to hope like a team like SLU goes like 15-3 in the league and loses in the tourney final and then maybe we get 2 bids. I don't see any A-10 league building an at large worthy resume beyond that type of scenario.

One Davidson alumn that I follow did an X thread on this subject this week but isn't perfect but I do think legitimately captures how there are still multiple teams including us have at least a chance of at large bid.
