Around the A10

So for me after seeing two great Spiders wins live at RC in the last 24 hours, taking the optimistic approach.

We have to lose only 1 or at most 2 in non-conference and if we do, our A10 schedule shapes us pretty nicely for Q1 and Q2 this year for a change - i..e. we will have our opportunities as our home and home games may be against 5 of the top 7 teams.

Seems like our schedule could be part of a conference wide strategy or something.

Or, if I put on my tinfoil hat, collusion by the P6 conferences to freeze out mid-majors.
Maybe the A10 thought the committee was returning to RPI this season. ;)

McNeese is supposed to be good this year but they lost a ton. For starters a great coach in Wade, and he took his two best players with him to State. And they lost Aura.

you're correct that our schedule does not set us up for one of the very few at-large bids that mid-majors will get. we've discussed that plenty. it's better to beat good teams than bad teams.

but you greatly increase your risk of losing ... see Loyola. preseason #5 in the A10, much higher than us. how's that working out at 1-4 with losses to Wichita St, Colorado St, and North Texas? they've shot themselves in the foot.

we're not getting an at-large unless the conference ends up ranked around #7 and we go 15-3.
we're doing more to help the conference ranking than Loyola is with their tougher schedule.
Loyola's record has much more to do with the quality of their team then their schedule. Put a good team on the floor and put together a quality schedule should be pre-requisites for any A-10 coach. Loyola failed the good team portion of that equation, we failed the scheduling portion. If anyone shot themselves in the foot, it is us, because our failure is entirely self inflicted.

And people thought our schedule wasn’t preparing us for a10 play. We will be ready for Loyola at least, haha
Loyola will turn it around in A10 play and I'll be told that it was their brilliant, tough OOC schedule that prepared them for conference play.
