26-27 Roster

agreed, that's our achilles heal.
need Boyden to get them up to speed quickly. these days, it's doable. should be getting to work around June 1.
I just think that is gonna be tough, we are asking freshman essentially to go up against 4th and 5th year players. None of these guys are big strong guys either, all need to hit the weight room to bang in our league.

My issue with this roster is the 4 and 5. Outside of Dorries, who played one year on a bad Patriot League team, the rest of our big man/forward room are 4 guys who have never set foot on a college court (McCaffrey played some limited minutes) and a reserve role guy from another small mid major.

And we are going to compete in the A-10 with this?

I like all that we did in the portal, but we are severely lacking in experienced and developed big men and that is going to hurt us when we get into the meat of our schedule. We are going to get bullied on the inside. Need that last transfer slot to address that in my opinion.
SLU was the class of the league last year. They started:
6'10
6'6 G
6'5 G
6'3 G
6'0 G

VCU, like SLU, went 15-3 A-10 last year. They started:
6'10
6'8, 205 lb F
6'5 G
6'4 G
6'1 G

and their 6'10" center only averaged 4.5 rebounds per game out of their 39.8
their tough guards did a lot of work on the boards. I think we've added a couple of that kind of guard this year.

True, but I don't see an Avilla or Djokovic on our roster, both were not only very good but also very mature presences in those line-ups.

our guards rebounding last season:
Lopez 2.2
AA 2.0
Johnston 3.0
Tyne 1.2
Tanner 3.2
Thomas 1.1

Saran averaged 5.3 and Kaiser averaged 4.3

Dayton went 12-6 A-10. They started:
7'1
6'6 F
6'4 G
5'11 G
6'6 F (16 games) or 6'5 G ( 14 games).

* I could do this all day if you want. I keep saying the old time "power forward" does not exist in basketball anymore. Yet, every year we keep seeing post after post on here worrying about who our "power forward" will be.

I could see Kaiser being a 6+ rpg guy for us. I have seen comments from him about how he loves to rebound. And I think he has the body to guard down low if necessary. This is why I could see him playing with 3 other guards a lot.

Mooney will coach the rebounding out of those guys. I wouldn't be suprised if both of their rebounding numbers decline next year. Thats Mooneyball. And without some interior physicality we will struggle to stop strong post players.

I think McCaffrey is a huge get for us. he's a Butler Big east recruit (who also had offers from Wake and VT), and he's got a year under his belt. he was the 144th ranked recruit and the #28 PF in the country.

I think he plays all the minutes he can handle here. we could go small for the other 10-15 minutes, or big with Ball, Caldwell or Cook.

I hear you and it would be great if McCaffrey is ready to be a 25+ mpg guy from day 1. Just hard to tell based on his 9 games at Butler, where he didn't do much in limited minutes before his injury. But, I love it that we added him.

Rams got reinforcements after getting whipped by Illinois

6'11- Djokovic
6'11- Pilsnic
6'10- Ross
6'9- Alston
6'8- Belle

4 out of these 5 are more than capable of starting somewhere at the 4 and 5.

And that is my question. How do we compete with that with our current roster? And than add on the rebound phobic coaching of Mooney and I have concerns, no matter how good our guard/wing room appears.

We have one more available scholarship is all I am saying and if I'm the coach, I am 100% focused on a strong big body player with experience, who does not suck at playing basketball like Kweisi or JMA. Go get us a guy who played 20 + minutes a game last year and maybe averaged 7 and 5, something like that. I'm not asking for frickin a P5 starter, just a nice experienced reserve big.

Also would be nice to have a guy like this who can teach all of young bigs how to bang a bit. Cause you know they ain't getting that from Mr. Fluidity.

if Ball got $350k as a forward from Monmouth averaging 8 and 4, you're looking to spend $500k for a center averaging 7 and 5 ... when we already paid a center a lot in Dorries.

I just don't think it's a bottomless well. you prioritze a few guys and pay them well. then you have to work with what you have.

And Bryce Dortch averaged 2p and 3r for Rutgers last year and transferred to Notre Dame.

Why do we have to compete with that? If they want to start some height, let them. I just showed you examples of SLU and VCU going 15-3 A-10 with smaller lineups and Dayton 12-6 with the same. And, we went 15-3 in 24 with 6'7 Bigs and 6'5 Dji as our forwards starting with 2 small guards.

97, if we can get a solid 7p and 5r physical, experienced back up, I have no problem with that. I heard we tried last week for a 6'9 230 lb reserve and he went to a lesser mid major, likely to start.

My point is we can win in the A-10 without that. There are too many examples out there of successful college teams playing 3 and 4 guards and not being big and physical down low. If you have the right fit, talent, and versatility on your roster, you can still rebound well, play good defense ( we were 34th in defensively efficiency in 24 when we started guys who were 5'11, 6'0, 6'5, and 6'7) and make taller teams adjust to you more than you have to adjust them.
