do you believe the often quoted football coaching wisdom that a team makes its biggest leap forward from game one to game two?...it hasn't proven true for the Spiders in the last two seasons and Wofford was the beneficiary in 2024!
the Spiders are in the same dilemma again this season, except it's with a less experienced and much younger team that is rebuilding in almost every position group...unlike the last two season's proven winners this team has yet to prove itself and needs to make a positive statement...delivering on that game two bump up in performance would be a strong boost to their and our fan's confidence...
it's interesting how similar Wofford's and Richmond's losses were in game one...mighty offensive struggles for both teams...defenses which kept the games close...special teams that delivered spectacular results, but struggled in some areas...
Coach Huesman acknowledged yesterday that the UR offense "left plays on the call sheet" and stated our offense needed to "open it up"...he went on to say that there could be some "shuffling around along the offensive line to get the best five in there"...
like many Spiders fans I'm looking forward to seeing what that looks like and how well we can execute it...during preseason camp Richmond's athleticism and speed were mentioned often as a team strength...I certainly hope our offensive line will have progressed enough that we can leverage those strengths...
the last two proven, veteran teams overcame the slow start to do big things...running the table against our remaining FCS schedule is a lot to ask any team, much less a rebuilding one, but winning this game would be an impressive bounce back from last week's disappointment...we need to win this game...
enjoy the Prologue!
