2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Holy Cross

Mojo-Spider

Bench player

its hard to believe that Saturday will be October 18 and Richmond fans will be hoping for the first non weather impacted game at The Brick House this season!...it may be selfish and it is the Homecoming celebration, but I'd like to watch some Spiders football at Robins without getting wet!...ha! the forecast still looks cool and dry!

I'm expecting a very entertaining game between two teams with their backs against the wall in this historic Patriot League home opener for the Spiders...

Coach Huesman said yesterday that the Crusaders still have a chance to defend their PL Championships streak (since 2019) if they can win out their schedule...by now Spiders' fans know Coach Huesman's rally cry that the only way UR can make it a season is to "we have to win six in a row and see what happens".

this seems to be a match between two offenses that don't score many points...both are near the bottom of the PL in several key offensive categories...its tough that the Spiders will have to battle without QB Ashten Snelsire...the Richmond defense has given the Spiders chances to win most FCS games this season...it may have to deliver again for the Spiders to get one step closer to six wins...

Holy Cross has had a week to recuperate, rest and refocus on Richmond and the second half of their season...I'm pretty sure we'll get their best effort and game...let's hope we can answer with ours...it sure would be great timing to play our first game where all three phases put it together!

that would send the alums and fans hope happy!

enjoy the Prologue and your Homecoming celebration!

Go Spiders!

The SG once again overwhelmingly have picked the Spiders to win, by a margin of 9-1. Does the Chief, who picked Holy Cross to win 16-13, know something the rest of us don't? So far the SG majority has gone 6-1 on the season in favor of the Spiders. If they are right, the SG will be 7-1 on the year to date, much better than the Spider's overall record. So, take the Spiders for the win.

By the way Satchmo, you fan base now extends to Worcester, MA.

Good afternoon from Massachusetts! Thrilled to have you guys in the Patriot League and thanks for having me here on the board. I think we are all hoping for a very competitive series with Richmond in the conference. I have a couple friends who went to UR and have been keeping me up on some of the recent happenings.

I love the prologue videos. Wish we could get one of our posters to do likewise. Right now, the Spiders are favorites on our message board pick 'em. I think HC87 did a fine job of analyzing our dumpster fire of a season thus far, but we have been grumbling about play calling since half way through last season and hoped a change would be made. Our staff did a great job of retaining some recruits and players on the rosters when Ches left for JMU, but we lost OL commits. This is really being felt this year with Cal running for his life some plays. It is a shame considering the talent on D and skill positions. Hopefully the Crusader D, which was a top unit in FCS for the first 4-5 games is rested and healthy. We were definitely banged up on D and couldn't pressure the QB for the Harvard game. They were also on the field for an obscene amount of time in each of our games this season. Not holding my breath about bye week adjustments since we don't ever make any in game or week to week.

Looking forward to future trips down to Richmond for some games (hopefully with something like the auto-bid on the line).

Sounds like 2 mirror images will battle it out at the BrickHouse. Injury riddled teams that are lacking in the offensive side of the ball and have been relying on the Defense to play big minutes. Holy Cross has gotten its bye week and UR get theirs after this week. This fact alone could be the difference.

Hopefully the Spiders can dig deep and start a win streak this Saturday.

Just speculating, but believe The Chief is trying to flip the Spider Gang Predictions Contest Standings...

with only five chances (games) left and trailing in the Contest standings, he either legitimately believes Holy Cross will win, or is willing to take the risk that they will and most of the other Contestants will pick the Spiders...

it's a calculated risk he's willing to take with this being what should be a game that either team could win...I don't expect he thought every other Contestant would pick Richmond...this is a best case scenario for The Chief if the Crusaders win since the other nine Contestants have taken the Spiders, if Holy Cross wins, The Chief will gain a full point on every other Contestant...

of course, if Richmond wins he'll fall a point further behind each Contestant, that could land him in the Contest basement with only four games left!

a Crusaders win could have him breathing down the Contest leaders back when the dust settles Saturday afternoon.

Go Spiders!

Not sure where to put this, but at radio show today Will McManus was quest. RH said he had planned not to come back this season, but then changed his mind, said "he couldn't let his teammates down". RH said happy to have him. Funny part, his family and gf were there with Will. When said he wanted to come back for team, gf tapped self on shoulder and said to family "and for me".

With Wickersham back but just recovered from leg issue, I expect the trio
of RBs to carry the load this game. My concern is our vertical passing game.
We have to have ability to open game up, to be successful.
Agree. Wickersham actually throws a better deep ball than Snelsire. If he can get the time and the coaches turn him loose we can keep HC's run support backed up. One can hope.

This is awesome analysis. We get some insight posted on our board, but nothing like this. Just last year, our game threads and preview threads were over 10 pages long. The Cross fan base must be more worn out than our defense.

As to the game, I expect HC to get back to fundamentals and a lot of runs. I don't have confidence in the coaching staff to make many adjustments. Good luck, Spiders (you probably won't need it)!

Good luck to the Jesuits of Holy Cross. And I assure you, we will very much need the luck!

Hail to The Chief!

Wonder if he has Huesman on the speed dial.

Hail to The Chief!
Confidence in the SG is wavering. As a majority, they are 6-2 on the season. It is certainly a better record than the Spiders. The Chief is the only standout, he stood against the crowd and made the right call. On the other hand nine members of the SG were wrong. The SG has work to do in the bye week.

don’t say I didn’t warn folks several weeks ago that Spiders’ bias was often a factor among the Contestants…

Yes, like the players, coaches and fans, The Spider Gang needs this open date to recuperate and rest..

As for The Chief, he takes a more analytical approach to his picks, not so much the emotional approach. After all he once quarterbacked a neighborhood backyard team!

Go Spiders!

There needs to be more time spent in the film room, all the way around. Hard work allows for good decision making.
