the last time the Spiders played their first three games on the road was 2007...that year ended pretty good!...it's great to open The Brick House season with ancient rival VMI...Richmond has dominated the series since the late 60's, but only leads the 2nd most played football opponent 45-40-5 all time...
does it seem like its been 10 years since the teams played?...that's right it was 2015..the peak of current VMI coach Danny Rocco's success at Richmond...Spiders fans will fondly remember Rocco's years (2012-2016) which included a couple of CAA Championships and three consecutive trips to the FCS Playoffs!
VMI is a very tough place to create and sustain football success in today's college environment, but I'd give Rocco as good a chance as anyone...it'll be his third season rebuilding the program...after a 1-11, 1-7 SOCON 2024 record the team comes back young, but with potential and experienced at key positions...the SOCON preseason poll picked the Keydets to finish 9th...
regardless of how the teams fare in their first three games, I expect the Spiders to be heavy favorites, but it will be a much bigger game for VMI than the Spiders...the Keydets have a large alumni base in the RVA area, it's be Rocco's return to The Brick House and the Spiders' significant FCS profile should generate VMI's best game...
Richmond better be ready for it, because the one thing that has always been consistent about VMI football is the effort!
