What do we want for our men’s basketball program

Don’t worry the A10 will eventually truly be equivalent to CAA status. There has always been plenty of discussion about A10 teams leaving to join the Big East and here is the latest.

Sorry the link isn’t transforming as expected but links to article in Dayton Newspaper about 2 senators open letter to Big East.

Well, we’ve been in Purgatory for a decade and a half, so if you subscribe to some version of Dante’s Inferno, there are 9 more levels we can sink to.

I am at the level of accepting losing to certain teams. St.Louis, GW and VCU are just better than us. So I just accept it.

St Louis is cream of the A10 crop but I still would like to know which Spider coach did the
scout for them. Mooney indicated on post game he went to switching man defense to cause
them to use more clock. But Avila on Tyne and AA from 3 feet away does not take
much time and creates a very high shooting percentage.

Exactly, on the last two posts. Always had the feeling going into a game with JB and Tarrant that we could win. if playing a UNC at Wake, or playing UNC Wilmington. With Mooney, you never had that confidence, and depending on the opponent you felt like we may need to get lucky to be in the game.

I would like to feel we have a fighting chance no matter who we play, rather than I hope we don't get smoked.
In other words, looking for a program that is striving for excellence versus just being OK.

And please don’t communicate that it is hard. Of course, it is hard. Every team wants to win. Hard can be overcome with drive and determination. If your program lacks it, then it is a sure sign that new leadership is needed. There are great coaches that have retired in the last few years because they knew they couldn’t bring their best to work everyday. They couldn’t just “go through the motions”.

UR is stuck in a cycle and someone needs to push to eject button instead of repeat.

With our facilities and resources (and leaves), we shouldn't be the ranked as 8th best job in this league - I think it just shows that the expectations for lil ole Richmond have been beaten down by what has been accomplished by CFL in the last 20 years.
I think it proves the point its not an "easy" job. I will admit I am discouraged by St Joe and St Louis games but the job has some disadvantages.

Those disadvantages are basically imposed by the ADS (plural) and admin settling and lowering expectations. And no dont start with academics, that doesn't apply any more. It's alla bout getting the right coach. And then again, and again. As VCU has done, and Utah State. PQ, Hardt, admin dont really care that much. That is problem number one.

Ok, I’ll bite.

Ok, I’ll bite. Name one disadvantage.
Campus is not in an urban setting and not as attractive as some more urban campuses (UVA, VCU) to athletes. NIL funds middle of pack for the A-10; less national tv exposure than other flagships in A-10.

That's 3--what are you going to disagree with.

We coulda/shoulda been a flagship program, our fault, which would have resulted in a more enthused base and more NIL. Can't speak to whats more appealing, urban or not, but come on, we are all of 4 miles down the road from VCU "wonderful" urban setting. Good coach/recruiter easily overcomes the urban nonesense, and sells the benefits of our "rural" campus

Everyone of them. I suspect UVA alums will disagree about the Grounds being an urban campus. As to VCU, to some folks the concrete jungle is attractive. I do not fall in that category and I don’t believe it’s a recruiting advantage to be labeled as an urban school. What a silly excuse.
NIL Funds, I can’t answer as it’s a secret. However as a duel sport athlete at UR I was proud to win for my school.
National tv exposure? Well you had that Saturday. What do you want the talking heads repeating ad nauseam, winningest coach in UR history, longevity, wedding planner, Princeton offense, played for Princeton and Pete Carrill.
Give me more.
