WBB 2026 Transfer Portal

Bigs are what we need - and while Asare is a pretty good player, don't think we need to be looking at a 5'8" guard coming off a season-ending knee injury.

There's a player that sticks in my mind that was discussed on the old board. Her decision was down to Florida (I think) with Richmond as the runner up. I have checked my memory banks (and the Florida roster) and can't recall who that was. My recollection is that she was a big or big wing. Anyone remember who that was?
I think you’re thinking of 6’3” Natalie Wetzel. Came down to us or Miami and she chose Miami and just finished her freshman year there. ESPN top 100 in her class too. No sign that she’s in the portal.

“Wetzel had quite a few programs pursuing her, among them Power Conference schools Pitt, West Virginia, Minnesota, Arizona State, Boston College, Georgetown and St. John’s. Wetzel said her recruitment ultimately came down between Miami and Richmond, which went 29-6 and reached the NCAA tournament last season.”

17 - there are going to be a ton of players entering the portal if the past is any indication. So I'm not going to start making a wish list when players (other than grad transfers) cannot officially enter the portal until April 6. There are some undergrads who have stated their intent to enter the portal but there are a whole bunch more on the way. I'm sure there are agents working the phones already and some deals may have already been made. But we really don't have anywhere near a full sense yet of who will be available.

Of course, there will be more players to recruit from but I think those two players I highlighted should still be two that go after. Highly recruited out of high school, but didn’t find much success the first year at a P4 school. If they’re looking to transfer to get more playing time or slightly lower level, then what better option than us as one of the best mid majors in the county with one of the best coaches in the country who can bring out their skill set.

I completely understand the theory of the case, but that’s the same theory that brought GW3 to Richmond. I’m going to trust that Roussell and his staff look at the entire landscape of who’s available and best fit our needs.

Volker now heading into the portal for Mason...they're just getting decimated. I believe that's 7 of their top 8 scorers who are either portaling or out of eligibility. Amoateng is the exception.

Surprised so many George Mason players are leaving as it doesn’t seem like VBL took another coaching position elsewhere. Also interesting to see how many players are announcing their intention to transfer even if portal isn’t open yet and there’s no coaching change to be in the portal sooner.
