VS Dayton March 3

The only way this administration is going to actually take notice is if people stop donating and also stop going to the games. The message of families having 20+ years of season tickets and not renewing speaks louder than any words.
While I get the sentiment, the ticket office isn’t real sophisticated. I doubt they’d be able to recognize any kind of churn in seat renewal other than macro-level which I’m certain they expect after a bad season (or two).

You’d think down 3 with 10 seconds left, you’d want to try and get a look from 3 to tie. But coach knows Dayton would be expecting that. They’ll never expect the “dribble for 4 seconds and take a contested 2” play. 4D chess.

Even if Daughtry made the 2, does anyone really think we could’ve gotten the ball back and somehow scored again to win in under 5 seconds?
I suspect the call was take a 3 if open, otherwise get the easy 2 and foul. I think we were in single bonus still.

It was a questionable strategy, made more so when you don’t have a straightforward bucket you know you’ll get.

No chance. I watched the last minute or so. If he scores with 6, we probably foul around 4 after we wait a second too long to foul. If they make both, they can foul if they want so we don't get off a 3. Or, they can let us shoot a wild 3 from midcourt. If they miss at least one, the chances are also very slim we get off a good shot. Probably a half court look even down 1 or 2. We can't ever get a good late game look when we have time....no chance would we get one in less than 5 seconds.

Even when I was pro Mooney, I always felt we were bad at late game situations. That hasn't changed.

What on earth are the conversations going to be like between Hardt and Mooney at the end of the year? Officially in the pillow fight 3 of the last 4 years. We are 0-6 in games decided by 3 points or less. We lost to VCU twice again to have a 9-29 record. Only reason why we don’t have 10 wins this year is because of the easiest OOC schedule ever and yet we still lost to awful team like Elon, Furman, and Charleston Southern. There is zero energy in the Robins Center. Attendance was awful tonight for a premier A10 matchup. Report says 4600 in attendance. That’s absolute BS and it’s pathetic we have to inflate these numbers to make ourselves look better.

On the other hand Mooney’s counter part, Roussell, is putting on a clinic on how to lead by example, set standards, bring the energy for his team, and continue to win putting us in a position to make the NCAA tournament for the 3rd year in a row.

It’s just remarkable to me that the conclusion they’re going to derive from this is that we need more NIL or needing to scout more players in Europe or whatever dumb questions JOC is asking this time. It’s absurd. To all the fans thinking of renewing your season tickets, don’t. It’s the only way to show our administration that we’ve had enough of this crap.
Last 2 seasons:

10-26 A-10
0-4 against VCU, with losses by 41, 18, 11, and 8.
OOC losses to Marist, Charlotte, Bucknell, La Tech, Belmont, W&M, FL Gulf Coast, Furman, Elon, and Ch Southern.
12-10 against D1 non majors when we should be at worst 20-2.
Conference losses by 41, 25, 25, 18, 16, 16, 14, 14, 11, and 11.

This is as low as we have ever been.

My observations:
  1. We could score a 2 with 7 or 8 seconds left and "play defense" - um, what?
  2. We have AA, Lopez and Johnston, all great FT shooters and guys who can make plays and shoot 3s, but he drew up a play for Daughtry to be a penetrate and dish playmaker? Daughtry, who is a bucket in iso around the rim, but also a turnover machine and who has very questionable judgment with the ball on a decent amount of his possessions? Again, what?
I'm pretty sure Daughtry slipped on a leaf. Because we're so leafy. That's why we can't win. It wasn't a metaphor, it was a literal thing, we've all just misunderstood it this past year plus.

I'm on board with Spider17's note that losing a ton of close games is not variance, it's coaching.
I'm also on board with GK that the close games narrative is already being spun by Bob Black via his marching orders from the Athletic Dept. - we were a 20 win team if only a couple breaks went our way in those close games! (That we lost 3 of those to atrocious Loyola, Furman and Elon will never be spoken of.)

Losing record vs. D1 at this juncture.

Roussell bringing energy and marketing his team to fans to get as much support for a big A10 tournament. The kind of thing a coach driven for success does. Hope you all had a chance to listen to the spider sound off podcast with Roussell this Monday. Notable highlights was his explicit statement of championships as a goal. Roussell saying that he’s never content due to being driven by the fear of failure, and stressing the importance of getting more fans to the game. He commented about how the coach serves in a way as head of marketing for his program as you can see here. Truly night and day difference between him and Mooney.

The enthusiasm shown by Roussell and fans when the women’s team was introduced tonite was a total contrast to tonite’s main event. I can’t wait to take a group of Spider fans to their first WBB tourney this weekend. This fan, whose family has maintained continuous men’s basketball season tix for almost 80 years thru seasons at Millhiser,, Benedictine High, Richmond Arena, Richmond Coliseum and Robins Center, am now considering not renewing. If I do that, I will contribute at least the cost of 3 season tickets for men’s games to WBB each year.

So detached from this program, didn't even know we had a game tonight until it popped up on my phone. When saw it was close very late, knew what the outcome would be. SOS. Year after year after year.
I had forgotten the game until the ticket office told me they would have my WBB tourney tix at will call tonite - I used one if my 3 tix and have my weekend tix.

17, I know it sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory, but I do think that it is very likely that Hardt just avoids any type or REAL discussion with Mooney due to each's friendship with PQ. It is more like how can they put lipstick on a pig real conversation.

Daughtry slipped on a leaf, now that is pretty good Brooklyn.

I think you were like many other folks. Not being on a normal Wednesday and it being wet out didn’t make for great attendance.

Plus we aren’t a very good team, so there’s that too.

Agree with the sentiments here - after back to back timeouts, the play we drew up with 5 minutes to think about it was an iso for Daughtry for a wild layup attempt?! When we are down 3 with under 10 seconds left?!

It's gross misconduct to not put the ball in AJ or Aiden's hands with 10 seconds left.

And it's laughable how often we either take a crappy shot or can't even get one off at all in end of half situations.

This game followed the pattern of so many this year: dig a huge hole, claw back enough to make it seem like a win could happen, then crumble late.

Took a friend to the game last night and he asked what the game would be like. This was the exact description I gave him. Everything about the team is so predictable thanks to Mooney-vision.

All that being said, running a play for Daughtry to attempt to tie the game was unexpected and unsurprisingly a major fail. Of course, I am sure they have been running it with great success in practice.

@brooklyn brownstone wins the best use of leaf in a comment. But speaking of slipping, the Spiders can’t even get a second person to work the mop in front of its bench and instead we see the trainer and manager towel relay? I guess that makes up for the lack of a true halftime show.

Thank goodness the home games are over. No Men’s pre purchase tickets for me next season unless a miracle happens and there is a new coach. Look forward to discussing the team, but most game observations will be courtesy of ESPN+. I’m sure there will be a game or two I attend for posterity’s sake.

On top of that we’re graduating most of our top scorers on a team that wasn’t good, there’s no one else returning other than AA (if he returns) who looks like they can step up and lead the team. We haven’t shown that we can consistently identity and recruit transfers to be successful here or develop our high school recruits to produce at an A10 level. We’re going to have an even worse OOC schedule next year. I doubt they make any efforts to reinvigorate the game day experience for fans at the Robins Center.

This is the lowest I’ve ever felt about this program.

If our leadership isn’t going to take accountability then as fans the best we can do is just stop donating and going to the games. If the admin doesn’t care, then why should we? Let PQ be the only one donating to NIL and Hardt the only one showing up to games to support their pal.

Is there a pention we can sign as fans to get attention that we want a coaching change?Just thinking of all the ways we could show support as fans to get Mooney fired. I don't think a billboard is a classy move, but at this point no one should donate a dime to this program.
