SCOUTING THE BIG RED (2-0)

The defending national champions are off to a perfect start, posting road wins at UAlbany 11-10 and No. 17/No. 16 Denver 13-9. The Big Red lead the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.720) and are fifth in assists per game (9.0).

Junior Ryan Goldstein quarterbacks the offense with 12 points on four goals and eight assists. He's first in the nation in assists per game (4.0) and third in points per game (6.0). Classmate Willem Firth is close behind with 10 points (6g,4a).

Senior Jack Cascadden is dominating at the X, winning 70.5% of his faceoffs (31-of-44), and boasts a team-high 12 ground balls while contributing a goal and an assist to the offense.

Junior goalie Matthew Tully has started both games this season, bring a .548 save percentage and a 9.50 GAA into the contest.

espn projected final four: Already beat two of them.

Cornell: With a strong returning core and championship experience, the Big Red are early favorites to repeat.
Maryland: Consistently a top-tier program, the Terps' depth and experience make them a formidable opponent.
Syracuse: Led by Spallina and Thomson, Syracuse's high-powered offense could propel them deep into the tournament.
Virginia: The combination of talent and potential home-field advantage makes the Cavaliers a strong contender.

Would have been 3 if not for the Maryland postponement
Absolutely. Doubt there’s much interest on both sides to get the game rescheduled now. From UR’s perspective if we can beat GTown at home next weekend, we’ll be in the drivers seat not only for an at-large but a seeded at-large. Maryland is a good enough team where they could still beat us and hurt those chances some and if their season continues this way, a win against them won’t mean much other than name alone.

From Maryland’s perspective what they need is wins now. They’re probably thinking that traveling up to play in front of a full crowd against this caliber of a UR lax team in the Robins Center could lead to another loss. Although they are Maryland and could beat any team in the country on a given day, they probably don’t want to risk it and instead focus now on Big 10 as there are plenty opportunities to win marquee games and of course get the auto bid too.

Its been coming for awhile, but this is a seminal moment for the program. Till this one, we were always the "little engine that could" and pulled off the upsets etc. This one is the first one where we go into a game a legit heavyweight in the sport and get it done (on the road!) against another heavyweight. We have officially arrived as a lacrosse blue blood!
I wouldn't go as far to say we're a blue blood, even though I love the energy. The next step is championship weekend. If we can make that somewhat on a regular basis (once in 4 or 5 year years) or win a national championship then I would definitely put us among the nation's elite and step right below blue bloods.
