VS Dayton March 3

we lost again. we shot horribly. and the compounding losses are frustrating. we're in another awful season.

but on it's own, I like how we played last night. and love how Daughtry responded to the benching (though I can't comprehend him playing only 13 minutes). Walz was good. AJ is always good. we played hard. defense wasnt always great but it forced turnovers. nobody hung their heads. no bad body language.

but we're not good enough.

Is there a pention we can sign as fans to get attention that we want a coaching change?Just thinking of all the ways we could show support as fans to get Mooney fired. I don't think a billboard is a classy move, but at this point no one should donate a dime to this program.
The moderator on the old forum started an online petition in 2022 that didn’t garner many signatures or nearly as much (or any?) media attention as the billboard. We did end up winning the A10 tournament short after that.

The petition actually had a fair number of signatures (in the hundreds) including some pretty well connected folks at our MBB program. It actually had some momentum behind it, which was of course derailed by our miracle run in the A-10 tournament. Had we not won the A-10 that year, I believe the petition would have added the voice of many hundreds of Spider supporters into the mix as to the future of our program.

Was wondering if anyone was at the game last night. I had prior commitments, plus I really just am not a sadist either, so I wasn't there.

What was the atmosphere like? Student attendance. Anyone audible voices of frustration? It looked pretty empty on TV

Was at the game. Atmosphere was great. Honestly, while the result was not what we would have liked, it was an exciting and very entertaining game.

The administration can probably look at an attendance and ticket sales comparison from last year and this year to see how the fans feel. Wait until next year if things remain status quo.

Which shouldn't happen at a game against Dayton, one of the flag carriers of the conference. They usually have top teams and the name along should peak some casual interest, and we couldn't even get that. Question is, do the powers that be even care? Do they care about Men's Lacrosse more? Follow the money.

I think people need to be public about the displeasure. Call into radio shows. Message the 3 people who cover UR athletics. Write letters to Hardt. Be active on social media about it. Etc. It probably needs to start feeling uncomfortable in the Robins Center before they will even consider doing anything. A bunch of us complaining on the message board is out of sight, out of mind to the powers that be. If all the sports radio talk shows had constant frustration from UR fans, that would be publicly uncomfortable for the athletic department.

Thanks. For the record, a Dayton home game is usually a game that draws a near full house a few years ago. From TV, the stands look for very sparse. I know we reported 4,500 for the game but again from what I could see on TV, it looked less than half full, which would be about 3,000. Does that seem like an accurate head count for the game or am I off?

I was there, and I thought crowd into the game. Maybe 100 or so students????I’d say at least 4K in general. No fan of CM, but the guys played much harder than against LoyChi last Sat which was a total $hit show. I thought this was a very pedestrian Dayton team. Decent but not a typically strong Dayton team. They are definitely a step behind St L and VCU. But they did enough to beat us which is what most A10 teams have done.

We were locked in for a win right up until the very end against an A10 powerhouse with probably triple our NIL resources and how many of you "fans" would have been angry if we had pulled out the win because of a vendetta against Coach Mooney?
I would have been thrilled for a win as they’ve been few and far between in A10 play. I take exception with you labeling Dayton as A10 powerhouse. Maybe in prior years but far from it this year. Better than avg but not overly strong.

Dayton lost to LaSalle, Rhody, St. Joes earlier this season. They are hardly a powerhouse. And by "locked in for a win" do you mean, never leading the entire game and then doing our usual crapping the bed and not scoring for the final 2 minutes of the game.

And had we won, what in the f*ck does it even matter. It's March, the season is toast, and we are playing utterly meaningless basketball AGAIN?

I can't tell if you are trolling us, a relative of Mooney, or someone who just doesn't understand CBB and what our program should be. Cause this ain't it.

Yeah I was there and would say it felt about half full (half empty?).

The crowd was decently into it as we made the run to get the game tied, definitely better than the atmosphere at some games this year.

Also, I definitely heard a few boos when Mooney's name was announced pre-game, but it was drowned out by the loud music and not sustained.

Don't do that. Putting "fans" in quotation marks. As if the only way to be a fan is to blindly support the current leadership of the program no matter the result or cost.

You don't know the journey of any single individual on here. But you can pretty much guarantee that if anyone is on a random Richmond Spiders basketball message board (which, by the way, we had to recreate and then rejoin b/c Rivals sold out) and is discussing Richmond basketball, it is because that person almost by definition is fanatical about Richmond men's basketball.

I respect that you continue to support Chris Mooney as coach. I don't understand it, but I respect it. But you need to respect that others on here have been rooting on this program since before Chris Mooney was born, and others since before he played at Princeton, and others since before he was planning weddings as a part time gig at Beaver College. And that buys the right to have an opinion that the Richmond basketball program is bigger than Chris Mooney and can be better than it is right now with someone else in charge.

I was at the last 6 home games and the only game that was close to “full” was the VCU game followed by the Davidson game. The crowd last night was probably close to 4K in my estimation. It is always hard to judge as the crowd comes in “just in time” as compared to early. The student section actually had more students than typical this year (typical being almost empty). I guess a fraternity or two decided to show up.

There wasn’t any vocal opposition to Mooney that I heard, but there is also mostly apathy during the intros.

The crowd did its usual support of the team as it made its comeback to tie the game. Of course, the momentum by the team could not be sustained.

I agree with others that all anyone can do is suggest publicly that a coaching change be made. I actually caught part of Bob’s show on Monday where Matt B was leading the show (I suppose bc Bob was off getting ready for the last coaches show) and he was suggesting that a change was needed. Someone apparently called in and asked for his opinion, but I missed the actual question. It was as unfiltered an answer as I have ever heard in ESPN radio.

Every time I get an email request from UR for money my response to the sender is always the same, "when Mooney is gone, I'll resume my donations." I don't keep track but that's a lot of requests in a 12 month period. I've been pretty active with emails to senior administration also. A couple a year, especially after embarrassing defeats. President H has responded a couple of times but mostly boilerplate stuff. After, what felt like to me, a one man campaign I'm happy to see my Spider brothers expressing the same disgust with the program that I've had for a number of years. I gave up my season BB tickets that I had since graduation in 73 6 years ago. I thought Lewis Mills was bad but damn.

If a change happens you might actually get donations
