Mooney--an under appreciated coach.

Why don’t our bigs ever try driving to the hoop when they are unguarded on the perimeter? Why do we leave every corner 3 wide open? A competent coach would see these problems we have every year and do something to address them
Moon sees Waltz as a shooting guard. Wide open 3’s with no adjustments beyond baffling.

Then you were all grown up when we beat Iowa in the NCAA's in Buffalo or ran rough shot around the A-10 a few years later and won the A-10 regular season--which included a win over VCU! I was at that VCU game, place was bananas, that was just a few years ago.

Keep the faith--better days are ahead.
By better days ahead you mean wherever Mooney retires? Just lost to the 239 team in the net at home. And what happened last year? And even when we put together a good season, we lose in the first round of the a10 Tournament. There’s no hope until Mooney is gone and if you’ve followed the program for the last 20 years. You would know that.

St.Joe isn’t going anywhere this year. That’s the other issue I have. Losing to teams that aren’t worth a nickel.

Cmon now, kind of like Giselle after that one super bowl:
"Coach can't dribble the ball, shoot the ball, AND rebound!!"

Now can he. What is lil ol ball coach to do?

The narrative that was immediately brought up by JOC and the admin was the injuries to both Walz/Beagle. I view these more as excuses now than reasons for the reason I alluded in another thread, which is what we’re seeing is a pattern and not a singular event. What I mean by that is it would be one thing had those guys been playing very well and we had been winning a lot or at least beating the teams we’re supposed to throughout the year. Then a very clear connection can be made that the injuries that occurred resulting in their absence was a reason that we lost.

But my big thing is that we need to be philosophically consistent. We cannot be pushing this narrative that the Beagle/Walz injuries was a reason we lost when we literally have lost 3 out of the 4 previous home game and had Saint Louis wipe the floor with us last game while those guys were playing. We were losing with them on the court too!

So we cannot definitively say that those guys were significant enough contributors in impacting our chances of winning to the extent that their absence was a reason we lost.

yes I believe we lost last night because both centers rolled ankles. I certainly think they're worth more than 2 points whether offensively or defensively. that doesn't matter though. this was one game. our problems go beyond that. we're really not that good. I was predicting 8-10 but I'm sure that included a home win vs URI.

I will say on the radio postgame, whomever does that now, was pulling no punches on the state of our play. And they did not use Beagle/Walz injuries as an excuse. Of course, there was no criticism of the Mooney, but they were clearly pissed off as to the state of our effort and it was a tad refreshing to hear.

They have been that way all year. Matt Smith is part of that team I believe.
