McGlothin Enters the Portal

McGlothin played 13 total minutes and scored 4 total points in 2 years with us.

JRob, the other member of this recruiting class......316 total minutes and 83 total points in 2 years with us.

Does Mooney actually watch these guys as high schoolers to see if they would ever fit in his system? He just continues to miss on so many recruits. It would be okay if we brought in 4 and maybe missed on a guy here and there, but this is getting ridiculous the last 5+ years. All we do is get player after player who ends up transferring down.

just keep watching, you will have more questions than you do know.

I remember being super excited about both JRob and McGlothin when they committed, finally two wing types with size and athleticism.

I remain unconvinced that our staff knows how to identify and properly use our talent.

Best of luck to Bryson. Never knew what happened here. I believe the new insider account mentioned a back injury? I really thought with our putrid OOC slate, this was a missed opportunity to put him out there for minutes every game. Wish him well at his next stop, will be interested to see where that is.

Recently, the only thing Mooney has proven he can recruit out of HS is the sub 6' point guard...and even then he has big misses in JayNel and Trevor Smith.

The wing recruiting has been brutal...McGlothin, Robinson, Tanner, Noyes, Randolph, Dread, etc. Not a single impact player since Burton in 2019.

Yep, McGlothin is yet another in a long line of Mooney recruiting misses. And another player he redshirted to hide from everyone else an extra year his mistake. It's too the point that as soon as I hear a player is redshirting, we can go ahead and put that player in the "not a part of our future" bucket with pretty great assurance.

No question about it. With AAU, these guys play a ton of basketball during their high school years. Freshmen come into college as ready as they have ever been. We should not be redshirting guys....we should be bringing freshmen ready players with talent in here, especially on teams that go 5-14 in the A-10.

can't miss what I didn't have. no idea if McGlothin can play or not. unfortunate if his back held him back. hope he gets a fresh healthy start somewhere.

He redshirted on a bad team, I guess because he wasn't ready, but this year, he didn't make an 11 man rotation, also on a bad team. Hard to blame back issues on that when he did play in 3 games early. Best of luck to him, and I hope he finds a good fit.

I can't help but agree with all sides here. Thought he was intriguing, no idea of his ability after 2 years, staff's history in recruiting HS wings/big guards since 2019 - 7 full years - is atrocious (pending Harper's development - still think he can be a player and that it was injuries and illness ((mono?)) that interrupted his ability to challenge for consistent minutes.)

They just have to recruit MUCH better and find guys who can play right away. Moon finally acknowledging this recently that longevity =/ success with players anymore is on the heels of him stating last offseason he thought pendulum was swinging toward 4-5 year players - that speaks to everything you need to know about where we are after 21 years.

Lost.
