Game Thread - @ SLU 4pm Sat 1/17 CBS Sports Network

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ll let the “well-coached” thing slide, but I violently disagree. Beyond that, we have a litany of blowouts, particularly in big games, so whatever narrative you’re concocting there is absurd. That’s just some rose colored glasses I’m afraid.

And we got blown out. So, yeah.
I agree today was not a good game--today was a blow out.

we made 9 shots from the field?

seriously though, am somewhat surprised we had 9 assists. felt like most buckets were iso. the Moonball offense just doesn't lead to buckets against good defenses. It leads to a full reset up top at about the 13 second mark on the shot clock and then someone like Johnston or Lopez will usually make an iso move.

We have 21 years of endgame meltdowns when teams tighten up their defense, and the abysmal record against VCU, who for the most part has applied halfcourt / fullcourt ball pressure for entire games. The offense works against weak defensive teams, lazy team and poorly coached teams. Such is Mooney's record against the good teams of the A10 and the dregs.

Moon owes Kevin Anderson like $15 million for all those clutch shots.

It was not a good game. I don’t understand what coach you are watching. Last year alone we had 7 games that we lost by 15pts or more, including a couple of games we lost by 40+ pts. There were 2 the season before that, and 5 the season before that. I could go on.

He’s not a coaching genius nor does he create some intrinsic advantage that makes us a tough out. These are myths. If anything, his teams have a propensity to lose close games and not blow out teams we arguably should.

My goal is not to bag on CM, he’s a nice guy who has given UR a couple of memorable moments over 20+ years. But we should really aspire for more than this.

Imagine if KA had not played at UR. Would Moonman been fired years ago? Only reason I can think of to dislike KA!

Will Harper should be playing 15 + min a game now. Has a lot of potential being 6’5 guard that appears to to be athletic and has a good shot on him. Are only hope is that him and aa turn into all A-10 guards and stay all four years which is rare these days. Maybe then that will give us two years of success while there juniors and seniors. Even if that happened I wouldn't trust Mooney to recruit good players around them or have good game management.

This unfortunately is exactly the justification Mooney is providing Hardt and PQ ( not that they care), see I have two freshman potential All A10 level guards. We can build more around them next season. In year 3 and 4 this is KA and Gonzo again. The beat goes on and we are still in the long game. People poo poo'd my long game theory, but moon is working on implementing it perfectly. He is setting the expectation that there should be expectations in 27-28 season. Don't fall for it. I know its all we got, and I was thinking along the same lines of your post too. But I dont buy it. If it was on target both Jrob and McGlothin would be good contributors this season. Moon was obviously pushing the Bryson future star narrative to our podcasters. Yet Bryson doesn't play in year 2. At all. Heck, I was calling for him to start, but he gets same minutes as the nephew.

It’s the outlier to think that in today’s college world that those 2 guys will still be playing together their senior year, it would be great, but not likely.
