Game Thread - @ SLU 4pm Sat 1/17 CBS Sports Network

Mooney's defensive scheme, switch on everything, is not even fair to the players. What 6 foot or shorter point guard wants to guard a 6'10" center underneath? And how can your center or other taller players defensively rebound when they are defending guards at the 3 point line? Does Mooney see any succesful teams, or any other team for that matter, playing this defense? That should tell him something.

So I think we know now for sure (and lets be real - - we all should have known it all along) - - we aren't very good at all.

9-1 to start the year against the 360th or something like that schedule (with all but one game at home) proves only that we are maybe better than 360th (but maybe not since they were all at home) and prepares us for absolutely nothing. Offense and defense both work great but uh oh when we see a real opponent. Since that great idea of a way to start, we are 4-5 with wins against Citadel, Fordham, Lasalle, and the (winless in the A-10) Bonnies. We have managed to lose to Elon, St. Joes and Charleston Southern(!) and the two real teams we have faced have totally hammered us. So, I'd put us somewhere in the bottom quartile of the NCAA all things considered right now and thats off last years similar results (better schedule last year so fewer wins, but not sure we are really any better).

Big run for Spiders at the end to get it down from 32 to a respectable 25! And I am sure Moon will want to talk about how we put up 41 points in the 2nd half - - - certainly validates the Mooney offensive system!
