Game Thread - GMU @ RC Tuesday 2/10 7pm ESPN+

I hate feeling jaded about this, but do these games even matter at this point? We’re just going through the motions. Doesn’t matter if we lose to our rivals, get embarrassed by Davidson at home, have our 6th loss in a row, we will still have the same canned responses from Mooney and no other comments from the AD office. We are still going to have the same offensive and defensive problems that other teams exploit.

It’s clear from JOC’s interviews/articles about NIL, PQ posting that we’re being “materially outspent”, and 32’s vague post of “hint” with Mooney’s NIL interview answer to JOC (with of course no follow up from 32 expanding on that) that no matter what happens the rest of this season, the excuse will be chalked up to “lack of NIL”. The only question will be whether this implies that next year we’ll have more NIL to give to players, but irrespective of that, nothing else is going to change.

does anyone remember or know if we targeted and lost out on a bunch of guys last spring? is that what PQ is talking about?
I feel like we landed Johnston, Daughtry and Thomas pretty quickly in April, while we got Lopez in May.
were we after a bunch of guys who got more money at programs who are at our level?

Welcome to the club.

Excuses each year, and next year will be better. But the constant is the guy steering the ship. Next year won’t be better.

Our target list (at least what was publicly disclosed) felt much shorter this offseason than in the last few. I don't know if that's because we identified and landed the guys we wanted or if we couldn't even get in the door with a lot of guys.

We won the league 2 years ago, we won a game in the NCAA 4 years ago.

This year was better than last, and next year will be better than this. Bookmark it.

The shame is there are literally 2,000 tickets available for Saturday.

To be honest, i just shake my head at the negativity on this board.

Agree, it did not seem like we heard about as many targets this last offseason. Buddy Simmons is one we could have used. Yes, another smaller guard, but from what I have seen he is much more adept at creating shots - closer to a Jordan King than the guys on our roster.

The year before that we missed out on Chris Manon to Vanderbilt. He was a role player there -but he is a strong athletic two way player that again could help in more than offense.

- 2 years ago we lost to Billy Lange who is no longer at St Joes (and look at joes right now after parting ways with their coach). By the way we also extended our coach when he wasn't even up on his current deal after this season.
-Sure this year is better than last year, but that's the lowest bar you could set for this program. We won 8 division 1 games last year, only have 4 more and it doesn't seem like we will get that many more. But yeah we will win 15 next year!
- Make that 2002 tickets available as someone broke my window and left two more in my car
- there is nothing positive about this program and nothing signaling it will get back in the right direction

If you dont get why this board is so negative, i don't know what to tell you.

It’s negative because we can’t beat our rival. When you constantly lose what can you expect. The future isn’t bright at all. The transfer portal and recruiting in general is far over Mooneys head.

2000 tickets are available to VCU fans…

this year we're 3-8 in conference
last year we were 5-13 in conference.
we're no better.
This is the most disappointing thing. The offense has definitely improved, but the defense is worse.

This likely disparity was pointed out early based on the past performance (or lack thereof) of the transfers. I was hopeful that a marginal improvement would occur, but obviously that wasn’t realized.

Totally agree that the forecast is more of the same as @MrTbone has already noted. MOTS applesauce for everyone!

Gee, I wonder why there are 2000 tickets still available for our biggest game of the year? I just can't seem to understand why that would be the case if things are better this year and the future is even brighter next year.
