Former Spiders

Cam Coleman said "when JMU offered it was “like a light at the end of the tunnel.” He did not like Huesman.

We also lost team chemistry. ...
Even though the three didn’t plan on transferring from Richmond to JMU together, Coleman said the trio ending up together “couldn’t have worked out any better.”

“Those are two of my brothers; they’ll probably be at my wedding one day,” Coleman said. “The fact that we all get to play with each other, I can’t believe it. I’m so grateful I got that opportunity.”

This is on Huesman. He drove these players away. No one likes to be chewed out, not the players and not the offensive coordinator. He had 1 year of the the VMI players and Billy Cosh and 2 years of Winston October. This year, the offense is reverting to form.

I have it first hand that Coleman struggled with the rigorous academic requirements of Richmond. His roommate, who's also at Turkeyville, was not happy and influenced those around him.
Let it go G, you don't know what you're talking about.

I’m a fan of Cam’s work at UR. Def a different feel when he was at QB. He is at least number 3 on the depth chart at JMU. Barnett is the starter at JMU last year and so far is splitting time with Sluka this year. Barnett I believe is a redshirt junior and Sluka I believe ends eligibility after this season. I know there was mention on our site of Cam taking over next year, but it seems it might be difficult to take the reins from Barnett. Just wondering out loud how this plays out in actuality for Cam.

This is very difficult to watch. We look like a below average high school offense.Just awful. We stink.#16 has absolutely no view of the field.

The head coach is responsible for what happens in his program. To claim that Coach Huesman, and the state of our program, had no effect on the decisions of our best receivers and QB leaving is open for debate. Reasonable people can disagree.

One cannot deny that Coach Huesman is responsible for the condition of his program. Our coaches and the offense are focused on power runs up the middle, in the A and B gaps. The offense hasn't changed in two years and this year it has regressed. He wants a running, bruising QB as the center of the offense. This is on Huesman.

I suspect there was a reason, Spider coaching staff wanted to RS Coleman so badly and I would say you just nailed it with the academic angle, so they could get him soundly set. Tutoring a night or two per week vs the film room every night goes a long way I would think if a player is RSed.

Agree on all points especially the ever present discontentment of one particular person that permeated the locker room and beyond.

I won’t speculate about the reasons but it does feel like our offense is playing with better energy this year than last, even if the results aren’t very good. Specifically, I like the energy that Ye Veney is bringing to the field.
