2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - North Carolina

What are you talking about? I responded to why we kicked a field goal with 9 seconds left instead of throwing it a couple of times into the end zone. But since you asked, sure I'm watching the same game as you and watching closely. Until the O-line grows up and is more consistent with run blocking and pass protection, what you see is what you get. I'm sure you've noticed we're not good at throwing or running. Our offense includes running the qb and if he was running for 100 yards a game and scoring two touchdowns nobody would complain but he's not so it's easy to blame. Expecting to cure our issues at UNC was a pipe dream, even a mediocre power 4 team should easily beat an FCS team. Celebrate the defensive effort. We held a power 4 team to 312 total yards which included two 50 yd runs, through the A, B gap BTW. If blocked properly it's a beautiful thing. It may not look like it from the score but we made progress and we were down 4 starters.
I disagee. Our running game was pretty good. We rotated our running backs, so that 5 had significant yardage. We had 144 yards of running, before Wickersham' minus 20. We also dominated the time of possession 37 to 24.

There were several times when our Oline opened significant gaps. It was not a good look for the Heels.

Huesman's plan was ultra conservative, run first.

There were instances of good play for sure. You can run it between the 20s all day and it might get you a couple of field goal tries and some nice stats but if you can't run it in from the 10 on in, you don't have a good running game. Like I said before, we're making progress if you look closely. We need to score 30 next week and not turn it over.

I have no issue with giving the kicker practice/confidence in that scenario (which is what Coach H said in the post-game comments).

Also, for those of you complaining about him in general, unlike "other" coaches he at least takes the blame when something goes wrong. I believe it was at halftime today when he said something along the lines of "the team did good, but I have to do better."

I have also heard him say, on numerous occasions, "that's on me." So while I am hardly his biggest fan and question a lot of his decision-making, he does take ownership.
He does say that but are there any meaningful changes behind it. He hired his son to be OC, our offense is bad, and the play calling has been mind numbing. Will he take the blame for that? Will he put Cummings into the play calling role?

What happens if our offensive production remains anemic all season? Who will Russ hold accountable?

Watching him scream relentlessly at one of the kids after the offside on 4th down was not a good look. I’m all for tough coaching but what was the point of that? The kid knew he messed up and we were such underdogs that at least the kid was amped up enough to try to get a block. Also, the penalty is such a trivial problem compared to ailments of our offense. The same offense that is run by his son. So him yelling like that just made him look like he lacks self awareness and personal responsibility. This is why nepotism laws exist but for some reason they don’t apply to college football.
