Splitting up our previous Spiders Friends and Family thread into two this go around. Below is the Former Spiders (aka Transfers) thread. If I’ve missed anyone, let me know.

Transfers following the 2024–25 season:
  • Ryan Soulis – 3 years of eligibility left – now at Columbia, where Kevin Hovde is. Hope he proves to be an All Ivy caliber player.
  • Jack Graham – 2 years left – now at UNH, closer to where he grew up in Rhode Island.
  • George Washington III – 2 years left – now at FGCU, where his brother plays.
Transfers following the 2023–24 season:
  • Trevor Smith – 2 years left – transferred to Hampton.
  • Aidan Noyes – 1 year left – now at Belmont (who we play this season) - last chance for Aidan to show the talent and athleticism we all thought he would.
Transfers following the 2022–23 season:
  • Jason Nelson – 1 year left – assumed to still be at Youngstown State. Had some big games late in the season and hope he has a strong final season.
  • Malcolm Dread – 1 year left – now at Mount St. Mary’s.
Transfers following the 2021–22 season:
  • Isaiah Wilson – 1 year left at Winthrop after at least one medical redshirt. Almost forgot about Isaiah who is the last member of our A10 champion team still playing in college.

27,000 people watching this YouTube stream of Queens at Winthrop...cool 8am tipoff to the season.

Tight game down the stretch. Wilson has played 20 minutes and only has 3 quiet points, but has three steals and three assists, though also three turnovers.

Summary of 1st games of former Spiders ... pretty crazy to think that only Aidan Noyes of the group below didn't start yesterday. Will always remember his massive dunk as a freshman.

  • Jason Nelson (Youngstown State) – Started. 26 minutes, 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers in a 74–59 loss to Pitt.
  • GW3 (FGCU) – Started. 19 minutes, 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals as FGCU crushed NAIA New College of Florida by 36.
  • Jack Graham (UNH) – Started. 26 minutes, 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist as UNH lost to Clemson by 50.
  • Isaiah Wilson (Winthrop) – Started. 21 minutes, 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals as Winthrop won the 8am opener over Queens.
  • Aidan Noyes (Belmont) – Off the bench. 11 minutes, 0 points / 0 rebounds / 0 assists as Belmont beat Air Force by 16.

NOTE - Trevor Smith
– Appears to have transferred to D2 Elizabeth City State (HBCU) in Elizabeth City, NC.

I'll be interested in GW3, always thought he could play was befuddled that Mooney never gave him the chance.

I never saw it. I don't think he was an A-10 player. He scored 10 yesterday, but was only 4-11 ( 2-6 from.3). Noyes getting all 0s in 11 minutes doesn't surprise me. Will be cool to follow these guys and see how they do this year.

seems like these guys found their level.
unfortunately we thought they were higher level.
Yeah — it’s been a long time since we’ve truly had a transfer “up.” (I don’t count Dji or TB since they were Spider grads.) And while I hope we avoid it, it also says something about our recruiting results over the last 5 years many transfers down and no transfers up.

Contrast this to Davidson — “Bobby Buckets” is now at Minnesota and Reed Bailey is at Indiana.

The good news is Richmond has not lost any quality players. The bad news is there have been very few quality players.

Doesn't surprise me either. And to think Noyes was the guy Mooney circled 2 years ago as a player who was going to make a big impact on our team, annoiting him a Day 1 starter. Kind of showed me that not only is Mooney a bad talent evaluator at the high school level but then even when he had a guy in his program for 2 years and saw him day in and day out, he still misjudged his talent. Even transferring down, Noyes is still a non-factor.

Pretty wild that Trevor Smith was our highest-rated recruit of all time (Top 200 recruit nationally/offers from Florida, Georgetown, VT, Wake etc.) and is now playing at a D2.

Yep. And I hate to say it, but it seems Tanner is that same guy now. Tanner has shown some ability to grab rebounds and make open shots - but similar to Noyes very lacking in ability to move laterally on D, make plays off dribble, and impact game in other ways. But Mooney seems intent on playing him (I guess we will see starting tomorrow) as many minutes as he can. Seems like a great guy and hope he proves me wrong, but he seems like the Noyes guy this season.

100 pct agree. Another player Moon said he needed to find more time for only to see him get less and less mins before he eventually was injured. We’ll never know since he wasn’t given real chance as Spider.

Do we have other GW3’s on the bench this year?

None of these guys are exactly lighting it up at their new programs. Seems there was reason for them to be on the bench here. I think the underlying issue is that we’re recruiting players who end up transferring to low tier D1 or even D2 schools and not even contributing that much there. Then we bring in new recruits who have offers from places like Stonehill and wonder why things aren’t getting better. Our recruiting needs to get significantly better.
