Children of Spiders in the Sports World

  • James Wood – All-Star outfielder for the Washington Nationals.
  • Jarin Stevenson – Rising junior at UNC after 2 years at Alabama. Has 2 years of eligibility left. Reclassified, so he only just turned 20 in October.
  • Curtis Blair Jr. – Transferred after 2 years at Liberty to D2 Cedarville University in Ohio. 3 years of eligibility remaining since redshirted as freshman.
  • Rodney Rice Jr. – Now at USC with 2 years of eligibility left. Transferred from Maryland, where he started every game and averaged 15 PPG.
  • Jay Woolfolk - son of Peter Woolfolk class of 1988 and UR's 6th leading scorer. Jay played baseball at UVA and was drafted in the 12th round by the Atlanta Braves.
Who am I missing?

And congratulations to Kenny and Paula on 29 years of marriage.

Strong debut of Rice Jr for the Trojans and good to see Jarin in the starting lineup for UNC although fairly limited production as also was the case quite a bit last year for Bama.
  • Jarin Stevenson (UNC) – Started. 19 minutes, 5 points, 1 rebound as the Heels cruised vs Central Arkansas.
  • Rodney Rice (USC) – Started. 34 minutes, 21 points, 2 rebounds, 8 assists as USC cruised vs Cal Poly.

Rodney Rice is a player but clearly James Wood is the cream of the crop from that list, albeit in a different sport. He has the potential to be a perennial all star in MLB.

Jarin Stevenson (UNC)
vs. Radford: 15 points in 25 minutes, going 10–12 from the line against what looks like a solid Chu-coached Radford team.
vs. NC Central: 5 points in 21 minutes in UNC’s rout of 1–4 North Carolina Central.

Jarin's production and minutes seem to be increasing for a 5-0 UNC team .. their next game is against Bonnie on 11/25.

Jarin Stevenson (UNC) – 34 minutes, 11 points on 4/6 shooting, 8 rebounds as UNC beat Navy by 12.

Updates from Feast week games

Jarin Stevenson (UNC) – Continues to start for a 6–1 UNC team that took its first loss earlier this week to Michigan State. He’s averaging 26 minutes, 8 points, and 4.4 rebounds.

Rodney Rice (USC) – Averaging 20.3 points in 34 minutes, shooting nearly 39% from three, with 67 assists and 3 rebounds. Did not play in the last game due to what appears to be a shoulder issue as USC beat Arizona State to remain undefeated at 7-0.
