A lot of what has shifted my perspective more this past year isn’t just the poor trajectory our men’s team has had that I’ve alluded to in several other posts, it’s the juxtaposition between Mooney and Roussell. And then this comes out...
"You've got to beat Richmond"
Lol has Mooney said anything close to this in 21 years? Martelli says it b4 he's even played us. I realize it gets harder for Moon to say something when he hets his expired milk money stolen so often. Heck why not try it, his current way of motivating the team for this game stinks.
While this game won't help our NCAA chances it could kill VCUs. This doesn't look to be strongest of vcu teams but I won't count them out of going on a big run. Their NET is 54 because they played a good schedule but a loss to us at home is a dagger....which means we got no shot
Roussell has made similar statements in pressers that winning vs. VCU is a priority and definitely never losing to them at home. He has great social media presence to advocate for his team and was a big catalyst for the operation code red against VCU that resulted in the largest WBB attendance in 25 years. He has set his expectations of this program high while being humble and not exhibiting hubris. He wants to challenge the team and has a schedule that shows for it. Roussell also shows that one can build a program primarily with high school recruits and fill in missing pieces with transfers. We’ve had no “rebuild year” the last 4 years under him.
So seeing this just shows that it can be done at Richmond. In fact Roussell is exceeding expectations which is why he’s such a special coach. Then you see recent A10 coaches like Ryan Odom at VCU, Tony Skinn at George Mason, or Josh Schertz at SLU who came to the A10 and have had quick turnaround of their programs and can’t help think to yourself that those coaches would have definitely come to UR too if we offered.
