Aiden Agrabright is our best player

Bench player
I'm gonna just put this out there. I think it is pretty clear he is a complete difference maker when he is in there. He is a 3 level scorer, the offense runs so much better with him on the floor, and he is really pesky on defense. His pull-up jumper is a lost part of the modern game, pretty unstoppable with his speed and handle. He plays with poise, he knows his game is good. Our offense needs a truly dynamic PG to run effectively and he is that.

I honestly OK for now with Mooney bringing him off the bench, it makes sure he can acclimate to the college game without too much pressure. Not sure, how long it will be until he forces himself into the conversation of playing starter minutes though.

He plays at a different speed and vision than our other guards. Lead guard. If he can have a KA type of freshman year we might have something. So far has played well no matter the competition. Of course so far played a d3 team and team picked last in AAC. But still he looks like a player.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I sort of hate that my mind already went to "I hope he doesnt hit the portal" but that's where we are in the current college basketball landscape.
Anything is possible – but in my opinion, the fact he is a local kid who chose UR over other options increases the likelihood he stays all four years. That becomes even more true if the new NIL program allows us to compensate our players at or above what comparable schools can offer.

Agree, that is one big bonus. We are local and mom and dad and friends and family can watch him play. NIL does need to be competitive.

What a shame that one D1 game into a guy's career this has to even be considered

He's definitely got the potential to be a great player for us though, love what he brings to the table so far.

From an interview of Ed Cooley by Rothstein this past week:

“Well, in today's landscape, retention is everything, right? You have to be able to retain your best players. Retention is going to give you know-how, it's going to give you culture standards, chemistry, continuity, right down the line.

So, you know, when we're able to retain Amelik, we were able to retain Caleb, we were able to retain Julius, we were able to retain, you know, Fort and Kayvon. I think we were able to retain six of our 13 players we had, and then we red-shirted a couple of guys, so that really helped, and then we targeted guys in the portal that fit the way we wanted to play this year. So, to coach in this era, you have to be very strategic with what you do.”

I think this is the same blueprint that Mooney is using. Everything is different now of course, but quality player retention has been a Mooney strength and hopefully it continues.

That’s in essence what our women’s basketball team is doing where the core of talent comes from high school recruiting, developing, and retaining them and then after that, we fill in key roles with transfers.

I’m sure Mooney would love to get to that point too, but the problem is our high school recruiting has not been good enough over the years. Like others have said, it’s promising to build a roster around Argabright and Robinson who both will have 3 more years of eligibility after this season.

I have every expectation that anyone who is a great player here will not finish his career here. Argabright has game and energy, and he makes me feel like I'm watching a better program than ours. It's a nice feeling. Hope it lasts a year or two at least.
