About Huesman

I hope this experiment is like Kyle Shanahan and Mike Shanahan at the Redskins for 3 years. Kyle made the super bowl 3 times as coach of the 49ers. That is my only frame of reference. I will just take an FCS playoff appearance.

Any thoughts about having a family member be the offensive coordinator? Mike Groh did not last as Al Groh's offensive coordinator at UVA. IIRC, the father had to let his son go.

Prime, Spider or troll?

Fanatic, Mooney is the highest paid person on campus and his MBB basketball record v football sucks.
I would say that Mooney is the more consistent of our two primary coaches. Mooney can adapt, Huesman can't.

Russ Huesman's record at Richmond is 53-37, which is a winning percentage of 58.89%.
In phase 1, the "pure" Huesman era from 2017 to 2021, he won 24 of 49, for a winning percentage of 48.98%. I call this the pure Huesman era, because he had no one else directing his offense. Remember when he started with Lauletta- he went 6-5 that year. In this period, he had no playoff appearances.

In the 2nd phase of Huesman's tenure, when someone else was running his offense, he won 28 of 39 games for a winning percentage of 71.79%. In phase 2, we had 3 playoff appearances.

This year, and next, and the one after that, we will revert to the norm. Huesman won't change his offense.

So you are saying, Huesman changing his offensive philosophy will happen about the same time Mooney places an emphasis on offensive rebounding? :)

The 6-5 Lauletta season....locker room problems. Many Rocco players did not take to the way Huesman ran the show and resented Rocco bailing on them. Didn't get the team's best effort every Saturday. Our lackluster performance that year was more on some sour player attitudes than the coach. Since he has loaded the Russ bus with his players, he has done fine.

I think Huesman's acerbic personality is more of an issue than most of you think. During the game, the TV focused on him every time he chewed someone out.

Mooney has brought fans a lot of joy over the years despite his very big faults, and I’ve wanted him fired at times, but I can’t remember Huesman ever garnering the same level of passion over his entire tenure. He said quote “We’re going to kick this into a higher gear” during his first press conference. It’s been the opposite
