Hardt wasn't there so they got Russ talking right away. Apparently he recently had surgery?

Very critical of the kicking situation there as well, saying he might not choose a starter until kickoff (same quote as JOC article). Praised the team speed and was excited to see the youth out there but admitted that much youth could be moving fast, just not in the right direction. Didn't discuss opponents too much, really hammered on local recruiting and thankful for the kids that did return in 2025. I think he's very happy with the pieces, just a matter of how together they are. Didn't say it but I think he would follow with most of our thoughts that we'd rather play Lehigh later in the year given the imbalance of experience. He said Lehigh and Holy Cross are the top of the league.

If anything, he is honest.

one of the most interesting things Coach Huesman shared that was not directly related to this year's squad was what he believes changed the direction of the program with four games left in the 2021 season...since that point out record is outstanding...

he credited captains Kobie Turner and Tyler Dressler for putting a stake in the ground that they wanted to exit with a winning season...Spiders swept the final four games to finish 6-5...2022, 2023 and 2024 FCS Playoffs and two CAA Championships...

Huesman gave Turner and Dressler credit for changing the culture of the program...

BTW...like everyone else I'm getting older every year, but the breakfast seems like one of the few events I can go to anymore at which I bring down the median age! :ROFLMAO:

Go Spiders!

I had planned on being there but was unable to go. But heard Hardt had neck surgery.

My takeaway from the breakfast is that Russ really likes the talent and depth on this team. Young players are athletic but need game experience to be able to react and play on instinct rather than worrying about making mistakes. 25 and 3 in our last 28 CAA games is extremely impressive. Lets hope we can duplicate that success moving forward and add in some playoff victories along the way.
