2026 running baseball thread

Dom Ruggiero entered in the eighth and held the Rams silent. Top of the lineup coming up in the bottom of the ninth. Time to string some hits together.

Spiders get a runner to third but cannot get the run in. After a lead off walk Richmond throws out the Ram runner attempting to steal and gets 2 strike outs. Spiders down to the last 3 outs with the middle of the order coming up.

Spiders go 3 up and 3 down and end on the short end today. Rams score 2 runs on only 4 hits, but the Spiders manage only 1 run on 3 hits with the run coming on the O’Keefe homer.
Got the series win and move to 3-6 in the A-10 where St Joes and VCU are way ahead of the rest of the pack. . Next up Maryland at College Park.

6 teams make the A-10 tourney. St Joes and VCU are tied for first place with 8-1 records. GMU is next at 7-2. Fordham occupies 4th with 5-4 record. Next come 3 teams at 4-5 and that will be 4 teams because currently Davidson and Dayton are playing in extra innings and the winner will be 4-5 and the loser will be 3-6 tied with Richmond and LaSalle.
Spiders need to take them one at a time and start stacking wins and keep winning these weekend series.

Spiders strike first in Maryland in the top of the first with an Evan Wilson double and took the early 1-0 lead. Terps immediately answered and knocked Spider Glenn Smith out and put up 5 runs including a 2 run homer.
Spiders answer back in the top of the 2nd on a Michael Elko single that brings home 2 runs to make it 5-3. Terps immediately load the bases again and Spiders get a much needed double play that wipes out the runner on third and then disaster strikes with a 3 run HR blast. 8-3 Terps after 2 innings complete.

Terps double home a run in bottom of the third to take a 9-3 lead. The Spiders push across a run in top of the 4th to make it 9-4.
In the bottom of the 4th with bases loaded and 2 outs the Spiders walk in a run and then the flood gates open with repeated singles and the Terps have scored another 5 runs to take a 15-4 lead after 4 innings that have seen 6 different Spider pitchers take the mound.

Spiders go quietly in the Top of the 7th and are 10 run ruled by the Terps. Final box score show Spiders with 4 runs on 5 hits left 3 on base.Terps 19 runs on 17 hits and left 10 on base. Tough day on the Diamond.

The Spiders arrive in Philly 14-15 (3-6) for game 1 with LaSalle 15-15 (3-6). The Spiders last played LaSalle in 2018 and swept the 3 game series at Pitt Field. In 2021 LaSalle won 32 games but the school made the decision baseball along with 7 other sports would be cut for budget reasons. After much Alumni effort baseball returns for the 2026 season with Coach David Miller back at the helm.
Chase Topolski is the probable starter for Richmond in Game 1. Let’s Go Spiders!

Explorers threaten in the bottom of the 2nd, a lead off double, single and HBP. With the bases loaded Topolski locks in and strikes out the side.
In the top of the 3rd Evan Wilson walks and then Elko doubles and then a 2 RBI double by Winebrenner. Winebrenner steals 3rd and a Johnson single brings in the third Spider run of the inning and the Spiders lead 5-0 after 2.5 innings.

Spiders score one run in the top of the 4th to go up 6-0. After the Explorers get 2 runners on base, Chase Topolski then sets the side down without any runners advancing. 6-0 headed to the 5th inning.

Spiders lead 6-0 after six innings in Philly. Chase Topolski went 5.1 innings and then the Spiders went to Chayse Gruber.
Random question for you, but did your username go by Tobias Catsup on the old forum? We had a poster who exclusively posted on our baseball team and gave in depth analysis before the games. If you’re not him, hope he comes back and also thank you for your continued updates with our baseball program. Very much appreciated!

Looks chilly in Philly. Is spring ever coming to the Northeast?

Sometimes I just don't understand baseball. We have a six-run lead, two outs B8. Pinch-hitter at bat. Throw the guy fastballs over the freaking plate, make him hit it. Instead we nibble and walk him.

Wood, it is interesting how the game has changed and guys will throw the same pitch repeatedly and so many 3-2 counts and never even try to change the eye level of the hitter.

The fastball is the easiest pitch to throw. It's the easiest to control. It's the easiest on a pitcher's arm. I get everyone can't throw 95 or 96. But a 91-92 MPH fastball thrown up and down and to either side of the plate, in the strike zone, is still remarkably effective. Especially with two outs in the B9 with a 6-run lead.

The nibbling after a pitcher gets ahead, turning an 0-2 or 1-2 count into 3-2, drives me absolutely crazy. You have eight other defenders. Use them.
