2026 running baseball thread

Spiders get another run in the top of the 6th to lead 3-1. RJ Johnson Jr. singles to LF and moves to second on a balk by the Explorer pitcher. RJ Rickabaugh plates Johnson and picks up an RBI with a Double to LF.
We head to the bottom of the 6th with Hinch still dealing on the mound.

Good to see that Coach Aoki has 9 freshmen coming in for 2027 and that 6 are coming from the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have waited for years to see this kind of in state signings. Great work by the staff!

Baseball has exceeded its Day of Giving goal ($50,000) by a healthy margin. They are raising money for new uniforms and team gear, and for technology enhancements. Hopefully we'll get some duds to replace those awful Sunday red pinstripes.

I was glad to contribute and increased my gift by 33% (Ha, I am still nowhere close to a "heavy hitter"). Nice to see some classmates and other familiar names in the list of donors, like Sean Casey and Roger Hatcher, who was the star pitcher when I was at UR.

Holding out on donations to WBB until I see who we hire.

As always, Go Spiders!

Also gave to baseball as I do annually in honor of my coach, Mac Pitt.

I thought about that, but decided to give. Want prospective coach to see widespread support for program.

Spiders 17-15 (6-6) head to Fairfax today to play the George Mason Patriots 15-15 (8-4). After getting the first 2 runners on base the Spiders have a runner thrown out at 3 rd base stealing and the Patriots get out of the jam. Chase Topolski is the starting pitcher for Richmond. After 2 strike outs the dreaded HBP, followed by a walk and an RBI single has GMU up 1-0 after 1 inning.

Spiders on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Elko walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch and used 2 Spider fly outs to score the first Spider run. GMU still leads 2-1 headed to Bottom of the 6th.

In the top of the 8th the Spiders load the bases using a single , walk and Mason error. A ground out ties the game and after an intentional walk Chris Schaller delivers a 2 run single and the Spiders lead 4-2 headed to the bottom of the 8th.

Spiders take game 1 in Fairfax over George Mason 4-2. 3 Spider pitchers combine for a 3 hitter with Chase Topolski going 7 innings. Chris Schaller had a 2-4 day at the plate with 2 RBI’s.
Game 2 tomorrow. Let’s Go Spiders!

I will be spending time on a smaller Diamond tomorrow watching grandsons play so hopefully someone can update the Spider efforts.

Big win! Good rally! I will be at an OSU game from about 2 p.m. EDT tomorrow (tailgating starts before noon!) so I can't provide updates either but will be checking the score!
