2026 Portal Prospects

Fernandez started at Mason with Kim English. had a big time recruiting list. started 13 games freshman year.
English left for Prividence and Fernandez (and 2 teammates) joined him.
had a serious knee injury ... redshirted 2023-24.
played in 24-25 but only in 24 games. started 4. maybe he was still recovering?
transferred to Delaware and had a big year. now transferring up.
so does he try high major again. absolutely should be recruited, especially being from Richmond. might have family here and we have NIL available.
Have not seen or heard boo on this guy since he entered weeks ago. He still seems like a really good fit for our roster. Big, athletic 2 guard that can shoot the three. I guess one question, as sman indicates, is he trying to go to a power league, or looking for fit and $. We would seem like a great fit. Have not seen one thing to point that we are involved, but searching I don't see anything on this guy in general. Pretty sure he is from Richmond area, so again, some good things from a fit angle.

looks like he'd only have one year left. we've done a couple of those, but Mooney seems back on the multi year track with Kaiser and Dorries.

I would think Rhoades would give Mooney an honest take on him. If Rhoades thinks he would do well in the A-10, we should go after him. He has good size, made 39 3s at 34.8%, and shot 79% at the line. If he is as good as advertised defensively, I see no reason why he could not be a quality starter for us.

AA.
Guard with size.
Stewart
Kaiser
Dorries.

I think we still need a center who is more of a physical center, not another finesse guy. Dorries looks like a good pickup, but now give me a strong low post player who will rebound. Christian Gurdak (from VT) type of player. I know CM doesn't really like this kind of player but we have to rebound better and a strong center who plays under the basket would help. We also need a taller 2 guard. We have 2 small guards with AA and Simmons. Need a taller 2 who is a proven college player to start with AA.

Seems unlikely. I can’t even remember the last guy CM recruited who projected like this. Maybe Andre Weir?

I don’t see a scenario where we get a low post guy whose role is mostly rebound and defend.

We could have a team similar to the Jordan King led team.

King/Hunt.........AA/Guard from portal.
Dji/Bigs.............Stewart/Kaiser.
Quinn.........Dorries.
Good comparison and I remember NOVA having teams with length and good defense,
but no great height. True they could score.

Well he was very late in the recruiting cycle, but Homenick seemingly never shot outside of 10 feet in high school. Of course now he is portable very used to catching the ball with back to the basket 30 feet out.

Homenick or Cook might be that guy.
we just got our big money center. if we add another center, it'll be a lower budget backup.
though we could add a big tough forward.

True. We can't spend good money on another big. And, now that we added Dorries, I doubt a real good big who wants and expects 25 mpg would look at us as a good fit.

I think our biggest need now is a big time guard with size. It is also possible we keep JRob at the 5 backing up Dorries. Which I don't mind at all. I don't see JRob getting minutes elsewhere and I actually think an undersized backup 5 is the best spot for an athletic tweener like him. He can come in and provide energy and a high motor. And if Dorries can be a big minutes guy like he was last year, we would only need about 10 mpg from his backup. And if we have JRob at the backup 5, or maybe even Caldwell or Homenick, we can use our last spots and remaining NIL money for needs elsewhere.
