2026 Portal Prospects

I am a bit concerned the posts here are almost all about guards. I hope we are out there trying to find a center as well
Totally agree, as I mentioned previously in this thread, we have exactly 3 guys taller than 6'6" committed/rostered for next year, and none of them has seen a minute of floortime at the collegiate level.

We better be bringing in at least 2 bigs with the remaining 5 open spots, and perhaps a 3rd.

I don't think there is any question about that. Most posts are about guards and wing types because most players in college basketball, and, in the portal, are guards and wing types. There are just not that many quality bigs out there to begin with, but I am pretty confident we are trying hard to land one, and maybe a 2nd one as well.

3 bigs? If we land 2 bigs, what 3rd big would want to transfer here?

Mooney has talked about playing 2 bigs together for a few years now. Based on that fact and Mooney’s new frequent subs model, we need at least 4. /s
That didn't answer my question. My point is if we land 2 bigs in the portal, why would a 3rd big want to transfer here this year? I don't think you can sell a quality big on "we have talked about playing 2 bigs together so we need at least 4" if we have already landed 2.

Any other team interested would say " why go there...they just signed 2 bigs this off season, they have never played 2 bigs together because very few teams do, and they started 4 guards last year". I could go on and on, but the bottom line is we are not getting 3 transfer bigs this year. And, I would say the same if we actually had a bunch of talent returning, but right now, we have AA and Kaiser with 5 spots left, and some of you want us to use as many as 3 of the 5 spots on bigs? Yikes!!!!

I wouldn't interpret that as 3 centers/5s if that's what you mean, on that point I certainly agree. I suspect we need at least 1 experienced 5, and we don't have any experienced 4-types on the roster either, so my guess is we could use 1 of each of those types, plus potentially another 3rd guy for rotation. This could also just be a taller wing, just feel like we desperately need more height on this team.

I doubt any upperclassman transfer is coming here worried they are going to play behind the three freshmen, the minutes should be plentiful.

Need a starting center, probably a back up center, and a starting power forward out of the portal. I guess some would see that as 3 bigs. I see it is as 2 centers and forward. Also need a starting 2 guard in the portal. That would be 4 of our 5 portal slots. Last one, goes to best remaining player regardless of position.

I could see close to that. I am not as concerned about a power forward. So few teams even have them anymore. I would rather have more of a stretch 4 who can make the 3 or another Kaiser type. So, find a starting big, backup big, another 6'6 Kaiser type, and 2 guards, hopefully one with size to start with AA.

AA
Guard with size from portal.
Kaiser.
Kaiser type with size from portal.
Big from portal.

This would be a great lineup if all 4 non bigs can shoot the 3.

The rate and demand for big men is astronomical at p4 level, and I think that trickles down a bit. So I will be happy with one center of decent ability and hopefully a stretch 4 type. Still think our best bet is to load up on a few big guards/wing types.

trying to track. there are the guys I've seen us mentioned with. am I missing any?

Preston Copeland 6'9"
Christian Humphrey-Rembertl 6'9"
Matas Deniusas 6'9"
Bryce Dortch 6'9"
Marcus Kell 6'8"
Eemeli Yalaho 6'8"
Jamie Kaiser 6'6"
Jaxon Olvera 6'5"
Kevair Kennedy 6'2"
Tahlan Pettway 6'2"
AJ Bates 6'3"

Not particularly excited about Elabor. High usage, low efficiency on offense, extreme turnover rate higher than his assist rate ( which is very high), poor rebounding rates for his size. He was just a freshman though

I wouldn’t say I would be as excited as when we landed Kaiser but I think he would be a solid pick up. We have 5 or 6 slots to fill this off season and not everyone can be guaranteed starter material. He looks like someone who has a lot of upside and brings extra athleticism to a position that I would argue needs the most athletic player.

16 minutes at Butler averaging 5 ppg and 2 rbg isn’t anything incredible but if it was, he would be looking at other top P4 teams now or we would need to spend elite level NIL on him. His free throw and 3 point percentage aren’t good and has higher turnover rate but hopefully we can at least work on limiting the turnovers here. I liked that in 4 of his last 6 games he had 10 points or more. I think he has the potential to be a solid role player here and potential starter one day. He has good experience at the big east level which is different than other P4 transfers we got like GW3 and AP who had virtually no game experience at that level.

Our most important priority is the 5 spot and then a guard to play next to AA. If we really want him, I like our chances to land him with both the Mojo and Kaiser connection.
