2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - VMI

hard to believe it's been 10 years since we played the Keydets, but like Coach Huesman, I'm glad to see them back on the UR schedule...Huesman called them a "natural rival" and I agree

I suspect many Spiders' fans are like me after three games...they know we need to get better, particularly on offense, but aren't sure how far we've come and how far we have left to go to be prepared to battle the Patriot League's best

the Keydets could be a good measuring stick for where we are...last week VMI proved it could go head to head for four quarters against future Patriot opponent Bucknell in a 35-28 loss...it took 5 TD passes from the outstanding Bucknell QB, the last with less than two minutes remaining to put away the Keydets...

the Spiders' defense will be facing the best passing offense it's seen this season...VMI can throw and catch it...they went for over 400 yards of total offense against Bucknell...their QB threw for >350 yards and 3 TDs with no INTs...the Keydets have two very dangerous WRs and a RB that's tough to bring down!...this will be a great FCS test for our defense which Coach Huesman described as playing "solid" in the first three games...

on the other hand, the VMI defense has had some struggles...they gave up 52 points in their opener to BCS Navy and the previously mentioned 35 to Bucknell...as Spiders' fans know we've struggled mightily to score points in our first three games...VMI scored more offensive TDs last week than UR's scored in three games...playing against what on paper looks like the weakest defense we've faced, I hope we'll see our offense score some points!...that would be much needed progress...

I know Coach Rocco looks is looking forward to this one and Richmond fans know he'll have his team ready to play their best!...it could be quite a battle at The Brick House!

against a team we usually dominate, I look forward to getting a much better picture of where we stand heading for our Patriot League opponents in October!

enjoy the Prologue!

Go Spiders!

So, the SG has overwhelmingly predicted, by a margin of 9-1, that the Spiders will win the game tomorrow. So far, the majority of the SG have been right this year. All have likely assumed that the Spiders will score more offensive touchdowns than we have scored all season. Alternatively, they may have calculated that UR will produce more points by the defense or special teams. VMI's offense matches up sell against our DBs and they can move the ball.

Look for the Spiders to control the ball and dominate the time of possession.
