2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Lafayette

looking forward to this one at The Brick House...I hope the Spiders are looking at the Leopards and the Indians next week as their Playoff games...

on paper these will be the two best FCS teams we've played since the opener at Lehigh...the outcomes could be a good measuring stick of how close, or far, we are from battling for Championships and the Playoffs again...

Lafayette brings the best offense the Spiders have seen all season...they've brutalized Georgetown, Bucknell and Colgate with 40, 50 and 60 point offensive explosions, but you know what?...the Leopards have not faced a defense as strong as the Spiders...it'll be interesting to see if we can slow them down...

the Lafayette defense has given up a bunch of points in just about every PL game except Fordham and Holy Cross...if our offense can execute we could score some points...

obviously a lot will have to come together for Richmond to win this football game...I don't believe we've played a clean game in all three phases this season...some call this complimentary football...maybe Saturday will be our day?

you're all invited...for the 15th consecutive season The Spider Gang will recognize the Richmond football players who may be playing their last home game at The Brick House with the always loud Spider Gang Senior Day Shoutout...it'll take place pregame in parking lot C61 on the south side of Robins Center...it's a fun way to thank our players for the hard work and commitment it takes to be a D-1 player at Richmond...and enjoy a big dose of Spiders' football camaraderie and fellowship...

enjoy the Prologue!

Go Spiders!

The majority of the SG has picked the Spiders to win, by a slim 6-4 margin. The Chief leads the dissenters by selecting Lafayette 24-21. In following this Dissenter-in-Chief, I would pick Lafayette to win. I am wrong 97% of the time. My rule is only bet on a Dick Tarrant led team.

This tells me that our team has way under performed this season. Most of that was self inflicted caused by coaching mistakes. We are being out coached. Two parts of the analysis really sting.

"A common theme has been a good opening drive or two and then a shrinking of the offense. I’m not sure how many drives/plays we have on our script but we have to find a way to sustain offense beyond our opening calls."

"Every Patriot League game has been close but most Patriot League teams aren’t very good. How we played against Fordham and Georgetown won’t cut it against Lafayette or William & Mary, so the Spiders have to find another gear in order to close the season strong."

I laughed when Bob suggested we might able to get points when starting on our 20 with a minute to go. Now we're in danger of giving up more points.

Time for a change. He's had a nice run, but we need a fresh approach to get people interested again. But of course, Hardt won't act.

PS: I saw Lafayette play earlier this year, at Oregon State. They ended up getting blown out but I figured there was no way we would beat them.
