I guess its not bad strategy to schedule no one good in OOC. If UR didn't have the Q3 loss to Furman they may be sub 70 NET. Crazy system.
Yeah, the NET is really a messed up system and we see what it has created. P5 teams are only going to play cupcakes OR other really good P5 teams in the OOC cause they know that is secret sauce to get them a good NET score. This strategy also benefits P5's by denying good mid major programs opportunities for signature wins, ensuring they are not competing with them at the end for at large bids.

Leagues like the A-10, MWC, American, MVC really need to come up with a better strategy to combat this.

predictive systems should in theory give teams the same rating no matter what schedule they play. In this way, they attempt to measure the innate quality of teams independently from their opponents. If a rating is meant to tell you how good a team is and it change depending on the schedule a team plays then it isn’t actually telling you how good the team is, it is telling you about their schedule.

NCAA bids aren’t for the best teams though, they are for the teams with the best resumes. You need to play a good schedule to get a good resume.

NET is 50% predictive and 50% resume based. Most computer rankings either go full predictive or full resume strategy. Kenpom is full predictive.

Another factor at player here, I am wondering if Sec9's daughter is a kind of good luck charm, and reverse of that for Charleston. She left Charleston and big boy Chris Mack is tanking this year, and Spiders are on the up swing so far. Of course, with my the way time moves, she may have already graduated - I am probably way off on the timing here.

Ha — and I think you’re right about her bringing good luck. Her first semester at UR has gone well, although she haven’t made it to as many games as I’d hoped. I’m really hoping they don’t cancel the baby race this year — one of her favorites — in favor of yet another round of the wildly compelling adult-sized tricycle race.

Actually, they have added a degree of difficulty this year. The babies must now dress like a mascot as they race along…

The buzz is because of our record. I doubt that materializes into legitimate at-large discussion. The A10 has better metrics this year where a 15-3 regular season like we had 2 years ago would be worthy of at large, had we had an even halfway decent OOC. Still, got to win the games in front of us and let the chips fall where they may.

This. Plenty of hype about all the one loss teams because the talking heads have to have something to talk about and the number of undefeated teams is dwindling.

But it is nice to see Richmond on a list to be discussed versus not being discussed at all. Of course talk is cheap and has no impact on whether a team gets an at-large bid.

Keep winning Spiders!

Can confirm the baby race is on! I believe it is set for Saturday game in January

Bounced up to 80 in NET, 6th in A10 right behind Dayton at 79 and GW that somehow is still at 77 after their trouncing by Delaware who got trounced by CSU Northrudge losing by 22 yesterday

Heard Bob Black on the telecast last night saying there should be an MVC , A10 challenge. I think this is aiming pretty low.
Only way it would ever make any sense is a Feb timeframe challenge based on corresponding net values versus like a Nov series based on preseason polls when we would have been playing one of the worst MVC schools .. but even then a stretch of whether it would valuable or not.
