WLAX

One poll result that stood out to me was Clemson at #10 and how quickly Allison Kwolek has built that program from scratch. I read an article that rated Clemson as having the top recruiting class and of the top 15 “impact freshmen” Clemson had 5 of the 15. It makes me wonder if she could have accomplished this at Richmond with the proper support.

I believe she DID accomplish that at Richmond before she left. Pretty sure we reached Top 10 each of her last two years with us and we might have been Top 5 in the Covid year when they got shut down (which would be a third year we reached Top 10). So, no need to wonder - - - better question might be could she have won a Natty at Richmond with even better support than what she had (which I would say was certainly at the very least "proper"). Clemson picked her for a reason and paid pretty dearly in both salary and program commitments to get her but she and Chermotti could certainly have Richmond known as a "Lacrosse school" had she stayed.

I do not believe we were ever top 10 in women’s lacrosse.

The resources and facilities that Clemson poured into women’s lacrosse were incredible and arguably best in the nation day 1. Also easier to recruit for ACC conference which is the best lax conference in the country.

From Kwolek's Clemson bio - -

"In her last five seasons at Richmond, Kwolek went 64-16 (.800), 27-5 in Atlantic 10 play, won two conference tournaments and two regular-season championships. Richmond was nationally ranked in the top-10 each of her last two seasons and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2 of the her last 3 years. That doesn’t include the 2020 season, when the Spiders started 7-0 and defeated No. 6 UVa before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Kwolek coached five Atlantic 10 Players of the Year at Richmond."

Can't vouch for its accuracy but its does match up with my memory (by itself, not all that reliable) about the success we had while she was here. I don't think we ever ended up Top 10 (except maybe the Covid year when it "ended") but we reached it I think!

More to the point of Sections204 post, I have little doubt that Richmond Women's Lacrosse could be a National player even without a commitment like Clemson made!

I saw that comment about top 10 and I'm not sure what it's referring to.

In the media poll, we finished the shortened 2020 COVID season at #11 after having peaked at #10 the week before.

In 2019, we finished out of the poll after having snuck in at the bottom in the final weeks of the season at #24 in week 12 and #25 in week 13.

In 2018, we finished the season at #23 in our only appearance in the poll that year. We did receive a few votes in weeks 2 and 3 and then again in week 13.

Coach Harrington and the Spiders welcome the Bonnie’s from St. Bonaventure to Robins Stadium today. An A-10 matchup with the Spiders coming in 7-2 (4-0) and the Bonnie’s at 7-5 (3-1). Let’s Go Spiders!

Spiders with 7 unanswered goals in the second period and lead 11-3 over the Bonnie’s at the half. Bridget Lonsinger gets a “hat trick” in the second period and Alexis Morton nets her second goal of the game.

USF has had two big advantages thus far. They are getting more possessions with a more than two to one draw controls dominance and their goalie play has been outstanding. Their goalie has stopped several point blank shots.
