WBB 2026 Transfer Portal

This is a big time portal target. From Midlothian, VA. Went to James River. Former top 100 recruit. If I’m Roussell I’m putting whatever NIL we have and heavily recruiting her to come here. Instant starter and 30 mpg. Play along Sweeney and will be best backcourt play in A10 and one of the best in nation. My guess is she’s looking to play higher level. Average 10 ppg. But has to be worth a shot to recruit her to come home.

I followed her a bit because she went to the same high school my kids did. My recollection is that she committed to UNC very early, particularly in comparison to other recruits. We had zero shot of getting her out of high school. But agree she is worth checking in on now.

Different situation now. 3 NCAAs in a row, future WNBA pick in Doogan, and one of the best coaches in the country in Roussell who seems committed here for the long term.

If she is looking for guaranteed starter and significant minutes, she has that here. If she is looking to still play at a high level and for one of the best coaches in the country and a coach who will bring the best out of her, she has that here. If she still wants to play a high level basketball with good fan support, well respected team in the country, NCAA and strive for WNBA, she has that here. Plus we have the advantage of recruiting to be back home and play in front of family. I know it’s more of a long shot but we have to roll out the red carpet for her. I don’t know how much payroll we are operating with next year, but she is the exact kind of recruit where we can put that NIL to good use.

Doesn’t seem like a 5-9 guard is the piece that UR is missing unless there are transfers to come. A quality player, but not one that I see as a UR target.

If there’s even a 1% interest she would come here, we should absolutely recruit her. I get that we have a lot of guards but if she decides to come back home, then we have to say yes. We can’t ignore recruiting someone of her caliber just because she’s a guard and we have other guards. She would make an instant impact. A back court of her and Sweeney will be best mid major backcourt in the country in my opinion.

Target her....former HS teammate (although a few years younger) with Grace Townesend then spent a year with her at UNC after Grace did grad transfer. Hoping Grace is in her ear in a good way.

You have to keep in mind that these schools are always bringing it very talented players each year. Perhaps there was concern about future playing time. Maybe the school wasn’t the right fit as well on a personal level.

She committed to UNC when she was 14 and accelerated high school to be able to join them a year early. But I also saw that she considered transferring after last season as well.

Whatever the reason may be whenever the clock turns midnight on April 6th, she better be the first call we make. Again, no clue how much of a chance we have but we have to try. Great player from Richmond. We’ve had tremendous success the past few years. We can give her good amount of NIL and sell her on the idea of playing for an award winning coach, in front of 2K fans in her hometown, with a ton of playing time and against great competition. Again, not sure whether that’s enough to convince her to come here, but I’m sure she will at least listen and consider our recruiting pitch. Our team’s situation and reputation now is different than 3 years ago when she was being recruited from high school and even reclassified a year early to go to college.

UNC has a 5 star shooting guard coming in next year and she is not just a 5 start but literally Top of the 2026 class. Sure they are paying her a boatload and the others probably see that and know they are likely a lower priority and choose to go elsewhere. Not saying thats all going on here, but the 5 star recruit is fact and the rest logically follows.

Agreed that if we could pick and choose a profile, we'd be looking for bigs, but we can't. We won't have a shot at many players of this caliber (and may not here either) but if by some chance she'd entertain it, we must grovel and pay up and certainly must take her!

As I said, there must be a backstory.

A good local kid would be helpful, no matter how stocked we think we are at a position.

6’3” Mia Woolfolk is also transferring as a sophomore from Georgia. She is also from Midlothian, VA. Went to Manchester High School. Former top 100 recruit as well. Looks like our staff should be having a busy off season. Let’s bring her and Lanie back home!

Mia should definitely be a target. She is Pete's daughter.
